    Both informative and fun
Like many reviewers have mentioned this is a very informative podcast. What keeps me listening is how fun and engaging it is. The hosts and their guests have great chemistry and I genuinely enjoy spending time listening to them talk with each other.

    A Light in the Dark
I listened to my first episode from this podcast today…wow! Real, relatable, humor, hope, and encouragement!! I have a son who was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder depressive type last year. We are still finding our way through this, sometimes feeling in the dark. The latest episode just illuminated the path of this journey we are on…thank you ❤️

    Impressed and grateful
I’m a parent, and this podcast has given me education and insight. The hosts do great research, find guests with real experience, and are willing to question themselves as they move through the podcast, helping me more by asking questions I didn’t know enough to ask. Thank you so much!

    Five stars!!!
I’ve never felt so seen & understood before I found this podcast. the relief I’ve felt listening about the different stories and experiences make this entire thing so much easier for me & I feel much less alone than when I got diagnosed years ago.

    Hope
I listened to a single episode (Helping Caregivers Navigate Schizophrenia) and it was a beam of hope fired directly into my heart. They reminded me that this illness isn’t just misery and fear and scary pop culture references. It’s life. Its growth. It’s a teacher. It reveals your hidden bravery and your limitless capacity to love and be loved. (Also quick question: can we give 6 stars instead? Is that a thing?) Seriously though—Rachel, Gabe, and the incredible dad brave enough to share your unique story—you’re all doing invaluable work, and you really helped me. Thank you.

    Thank you!
Finding this podcast has been so amazing. My spouse has a schizophrenia diagnosis and while they are older and decades past onset there is always so much to learn. And your success as an advocate, expert and hero is medicine in the best way. Representation matters so much!

thank you for exposing white racists.
throughout history white people have re written everything to make black people look like the worst and most dangerous all while the predominant population of serial killers and school shooters are WHITE MEN!! thank you for exposing the lies.

    Amazing podcast!!
Great podcast, thanks for being an advocate and educator in the mental health community! I work at an in-patient psych unit and learning more about our patients helps so much with understanding what they’re going through! Keep doing what you’re doing(:

With the loved experience of the host, and the honest life experiences of the guests, this is a critical description of life with a stigmatized mental health condition. As a social worker within this population, having inside insight of lived experiences informs my patience and practice. People have loved ones who struggle. There is struggle, and practical paths forward, for everyone involved.

I have a close family member with Schizophrenia. I listen to every Podcast of Inside Schizophrenia. My sincere thanks to Rachel Star Withers and Gabe Howard. Their education and interviews have given me new understanding, practical tips, and a feeling that I am not alone as I support my loved one.

Good podcast that doesnt victimize schizophrenics
I have someone close in my life with this disorder and seeing a different perspective that has an open mind that does not portray these people as monsters or like the movie split or other similarities, an open minded podcast that doesnt discriminate people with these symptoms as someone thats wrong in life is comforting we should care about people even if they have a mental disoder i love this podcast and cant wait to listen to more

    So good!
My son has recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia & I’ve been feeling lost & hopeless. Your podcast has given me much needed information & more importantly, hope! (Now if I can just get him to listen!) There is something to be said about hearing someone’s first hand experiences. Much better than all of the depressing articles I’ve read online.

    Both open and powerful
With both a brother and a friend who suffered from schizophrenia before they died, hearing Rachel speak so openly about her life… I am both saddened to know they can no longer benefit from these podcasts and grateful that others can benefit. Kudos to both Rachel and Gabe for speaking of their disorders. Your honesty and info about treatments does a great service.

I love it , Listening to them has thought me a lot. I have a 22 year old brother that came to me last year really out the blue and told me he wanted to talk. He told me he felt like I was loosing his monologue, he didn’t feel like he was here with me , and he couldn’t see tomorrow or a future. I told my mom and we was there for him. But a week or two later he was hearing their neighbor voices and felt like it was a recording. He wanted help on his own , he committed his self in a hospital to because he said he was confused an felt that was best for him. We thought he would be ok , he was on medication , he was interacting with us more but then it just stop. He didn’t like how it made him feel , he stopped going to the doctor & he really just gotten worst over this pass year. It’s hard to deal with because I’m the oldest and it’s always been only us and my mom. She’s a very strong women who takes care of him and my cerebral palsy 15 year old cousin daily. But some days she calls overwhelmed, tired , broken because he’s having episodes. In my town we don’t have the support , psychiatrist , and therapy as we should. & he has gotten no honest help ! Listen to them gave me motivation , hope, and faith for my little brother ❤️ Gave me the knowledge to research resources in other cities for the help that he needs. Thank You 🙏🏾

This podcast is excellent - always an engaging topic, thoughtfully researched and blended with plenty of lived experience. Thank you for sharing this information with depth, honesty and even occasional humor.

Helpful but could offer more specifics
Just listened to the homelessness episode (3/17/21). Why don’t you identify that the medication used to treat treatment resistant schizophrenia is clozapine? It seems like the episode went out of its way NOT to name it. Why? It is life-changing for many people and severely under-utilized.
  • Benny0597
    Interesting
Interesting. But I feel that this is viewed from a point of a schizophrenic taking medications. And most do not.

    Eye Opening
Thank you for sharing your story and what it is like to be an individual who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I work in probation and parole and my caseload specifies in working with individuals with serious mental illness and/or intellectual disabilities. I found quickly that the majority of clients I was serving had a schizophrenia diagnosis, and I needed to understand better how to work with my clients. I found your podcast and have shared it with my entire unit and supervisors. Your podcast provided the gateway to understanding that I had been searching for! I could have read a million books written by psychiatrists or psychologists and still not have gained the kind of understanding I was able to gain simply by listening to your story. Thank you for sharing your story!

    THANK YOU
I’m a mom of a 20yo son with schzphrnia diagnosed 2 yrs ago. It’s been an exhausting journey, and very much alone. We can’t find him providers that will take him on, I don’t know anyone else in my position, he’s lonely and can’t make or keep friends and it feels absolutely hopeless. He gets violent and delusional, and I’m trying to take care of him by myself. This podcast is SUPER helpful, I’m so glad I found it! I need a support group badly- until then, listening to this podcast is a good back up support. Very intelligent, down to earth, and impressive that the host has the same diagnosis and is still living a normal life. I need even a sliver of hope, and this show provides it for sure. 🙌💥

Breath of fresh air and hope!
My daughter (16)is in the process of being diagnosed. Because you live with SZ and bravely talk about it, I feel informed and hopeful and like I can breathe. Thank you!

    Mom of 22yo
Truly never thought part of our parenting journey would be dealing with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, but I’m putting on my big girl panties and we will do anything we can to help our son. Sometimes I don’t want to listen just because it’s hard to continually meet this head-on, but I’m always so thankful for Rachel and Gabe being so transparent and making all of this less scary. Looking forward to learning more so I can help more. I want to suggest a show where they might just list all sorts of random sources for educating oneself: books, groups, YouTube videos, others with schizophrenia, etc. Thank you, Rachel and Gabe!

I’m so glad I found this!
My daughter is 17 and has Schizophrenia. I’ve been searching and truly just aching to find information exactly like what you’re sharing! I love how informative this is, as well as all the personal stories! It’s just what the doctor ordered for this mama. 😉

    Thank you
I am forever grateful that I’ve found this podcast, and I can’t imagine the amount of bravery it takes for people with schizophrenia (such as yourself) to not only open up, but to also educate the public. So I wanted to give you a big ‘thank you’ ❤️

This has helped me so much
Sharing this podcast with my friends and family has answered so many of their questions, saving me time and in some cases embarrassment or lack of an answer.
  • Tjstar2099
    Incredible!!!
It finally feels good to hear positive info about what i go through daily, and know that it’s coming from a reliable source(i.e., someone who basically goes through what i go through). I started listening to the psych central podcast, which led me to this, and to Rachel’s youtube channel, and the psych show channel, which i added to my sub list on YouTube. I look forward to continue listening to this podcast, and shouting it out in my support meetings whenever i meet someone who is schizophrenic. Congrats on this step Rachel, and i look forward to more of your insight in the future.

    Enjoying it so far
I’m on ep 3 and I am enjoying it so far. I have worked in the mental health field for close to 20 years, mostly with people who are DD. I recently took a position working with people with MI and wanted to learn more about schizophrenia specifically because I have an individual w/it that is asking me for Info because he was not taught about his dx. But I do wonder if because you have schizophrenia you are more sensitive to it being in the movies. I can’t think of one movie (and I love horror movies) that has portrayed a killer or violent person as being schizophrenic. They may have, but that’s not what I took from the movie. I watched bird box and was racking my brain when you said they referenced schizophrenia. And then when you gave more info I remembered. But that is not what I took from the movie. Just a thought..... Thanks for being so open and candid!!!!
