    Learned a lot
Learned a lot from these guys. Still in the biz 6 years later from. Also great for keeping proficient even after all the basics.

    Great content
Appreciate the time you guys put in to the podcast. I am still working out my niche in drones. Not as easy as I hoped. If you could cover what are the requirements today with flying over people with remote id now in play. Can I just fly with my mini 3 pro and prop guards? I get stuck on this cause it is over the 249 grams then.

    They may know drones, but…
Careful the advice you take from them. There are no “hacks” to get around the FARs. Follow the FARs. Quit being paranoid. No one is going to shoot you if you’re engaged in legitimate drone flying.

    5 out of 5
This podcast it is a great source of industry knowledge. The hosts are very knowledgeable in various facets of drone applications and entrepreneurship. If you are a drone hobbyist, starting a drone business or a seasoned veteran this is the podcast for you. I am an avid listener and now a Drone U member. I highly recommend becoming a member of you want to advance your skills and knowledge from a true top drone industry leader.

    Sounds honest
The advertisement gets old quick. But if you can stick through it. Pretty good rapport between them.

My GO TO guys. Trust me!
Drone U member here 🙋🏼‍♀️ Discovered the podcast first, but fell more in love with the community. These guys are tried and true and keep it entertaining. Well worth it is an understatement! Very grateful for all they do!

Too bias, lacks deep understanding into the products they talk about
Droneu is great for new dronies. I think they cover surface level insight well. They are kinda goofy so if you’re looking for pure industry knowledge without personal flare, this might not be a great option. They also have a good amount of resources that can be very helpful when jumping into uav. 2 main issues - First, undisclosed bias. On multiple occasions they compare products not disclosing to the viewers on the podcast they offer paid training on only 1 of the 2 products(shocker, they talk up the ones you can pay them to learn more about) Second, Not using the products they are claiming to be experts on. Specifically softwares. I understand 1 person or even a team would struggle to understand how to use every drone software out there, but to not even use a software(obvious based on some of their comments) and make statements that are simply false is very unprofessional imo given the reach of the podcast. Do the homework, reach out to companies you are talking about and verify your script is accurate so your viewers can be confident in the information you are sharing. Unfortunately, these guys fall into the category of know-it-alls that do not know it all and do not verify the accuracy of their content. Please add how you go about fact checking for each podcast subject, I’d consider listening to your podcast again if that were to occur and shared with everyone. As well, would love to see more representation from companies AND users to get the full picture.

This podcast has devolved into completely off topic political rants
I have nothing personal against the hosts political views, but they are completely out of place on an educational podcast about a niche segment of the commercial aviation industry (of all things). The older episodes were a great way to gain interesting insight for someone just starting out; However, over time John gradually seems to have become the all-knowing egomaniac type that most people who have worked around STEM professionals know all too well.
  • C'mon John!
    Politics
Paul should leave his goofy conservative politics out of this podcast.

    Issues With Staying on Topic
I am giving this podcast a soft 3 out of 5. Episode 1219 is an example of the issues Paul has with staying on topic. If the first two minutes had been support Race Day Quads in their lawsuit against the FAA it would be great. Instead we got a 12 minute political rant. This podcast gets a 3 out of five only because there are flakes of gold to be found. You just have to wade through a lot of mud to get there.

    Started with photogrammetry Search
I started listening to this show on episode 1099 from a search about photogrammetry. A listener asks, “Can I use photogrammetry for architectural surveys?” Leading one of the hosts to expound upon all of his misunderstanding about the architectural industry. Even going as far to say that you need to be licensed by the government ‘to do this’. I literally have HABS/HERS books from the ‘80’s that show you how to use photogrammetry for as-built surveys. I’m my opinion, this is another self-styled expert doing a podcast.

    Very Helpful Info
I bought a Drone about a Month ago. I’ve watched many of their You Tube Videos, and it’s been so helpful. I’m about to join the Community, etc. to learn more about the Business. I’m a Professional Photographer and looking to expand my Business with Drones.
  • arborist619
    My intro into the community
I did a good amount of research prior to investing in a drone. Got my 107. I’m an arborist by trade and deploy my DJI magic 2 pro and or air 2s quite often. I wouldn’t be anywhere near as experienced as I have become without this podcast!! It’s a daily listen for me catching up from the beginning.

Does Paul even have any balls?
His voice is so high and he laughs like a school girl!
  • Ronin0927
They know only enough get you in trouble.
In the most recent episode about vortex ring state, Drone U clearly could not explain the aerodynamics of vortex ring state, they never mentioned the 3 requirements for vortex ring state, and were confusing it with in ground effect and out of ground effect. I would look to learn elsewhere.

    Used to love this podcast...
    It has changed lately.

Unsubscribe & Delete. Terrible waste of time
Only 10% of this podcast is actually informative. Other 90% is schoolgirl giggling and off topic rants. Host is an annoying self-promoter who seems really jealous of other (more interesting?) sources of drone info. There’s a reason other show hosts are better known. They are more informative and positive than this wannabe.

    I'm hooked
Great work with the podcast! I've just started listening and now can't stop wondering how much more there is to the Drone U podcast. I'm so grateful for the resource and can't wait to hear how much I never knew I didn't know as I continue my journey with Rob and Paul. Y'all are awesome. I'm better after each episode regardless of the subject.

    Great idea, but...
Listened to 2 episodes, each about 18 min. At least 12 min or more was infomercial. Needs a better ratio of info to infomercial
  • #PANDAlover3308
    More drama than information
Perhaps there is just not enough technical info to share on drones? This is filled with artificaially created drama. Painful.
  • cantfaxglitter
    Makes me cringe
This podcast makes me skin crawl. I was hoping it would actually be engineering related but it’s really for people who have a very basic understanding of how these aircraft actually operate. These guys are basic. It’s like listening to people talk about the best being the best iPhone user. You’re not flying it guys you are relaying a target location to a companion computer and it is executing the command. Weak.
  • Blackbeard-4590
Great information. Obnoxious host to anyone over 40.
Haven’t heard any podcast host with such disdain for anyone who is over 40. Can’t get through a single episode without hearing Paul rip on all the “geriatrics” who are apparently the cause of all ills as well as too stupid to understand why this technology is so important for humanity. It’s unfortunate that this boy wasn’t raised with any respect or manners, he would certainly take umbrage at a “geriatric” referring to him as a punk, even though that is exactly how he behaves toward anyone older than himself.
  • Jordan Craig
Essential for any drone pilot or pilot-to-be!
Paul, the bald heads, and guests, combine knowledge and enthusiasm with the heart of a teacher. This mix brings fresh insight and common sense to an often complicated operating environment. Thank you!!

    DroneU is AWESOME!
Got my Part 107 drone license training from these guys and I scored an 87%! They are the ELITE for all things about drones! The people inside DroneU are a voice for the new & experienced pilots. They break down complicated laws and make them easy to understand. Their drone knowledge FAR EXCEEDS the competition out there! Even if a company was bigger, made more money, or had more connections, I would still stay with DroneU! :)

    Educational & Inspiring
Very inspiring to hear these gentlemen speak. It’s always relatable topics and content and that’s what truly keeps me engaged with this podcast and YouTube channel. I love hearing other people ask questions that sometimes I think also. This is a perfect place to get knowledge about the drone industry. Love the show! 🤙🏾🤙🏾

Lots of info - no bombshells
Podcast is great and I continue to listen, however no “bombshells” are ever revealed. As someone else reviewed, please stop saying this. We understand you like saying it, but it loses its value when you say it improperly. On that bombshell, review over.

I have been a drone member for several years. I would highly recommend listening to every podcast. I always get some useful information, from helping me get my daytime waver 2 years ago, to encouraging me to do the in person mapping. Keep it up Paul and Rob. Thanks Russell (Arkansas Drone Solutions)

    Drone U
Great show! Initially started watching their YouTube channel after I bought my first drone. Shortly after I became a member, and am trying to learn as much as I can! The Drone U is one of the best resources I have found if you’re trying to get into the world of drones. Between the Facebook communities, their website, and the podcast, I’ve got plenty of info to sort through in my journey to get my Part 107. Thank you Drone U!!

    Interest in drones=This Podcast
This is a great Q&A show where real world situations are broken down by experts, can’t believe they’re almost at 1,000 episodes :,) Happy to listen as long as I continue to fly & operate, thanks to everyone on their team!

    Love this podcast
Have learned so much from listening to this show. Paul and Rob balance each other really well, I feel like I know these guys personally. It’s true that Paul can go off on tangents like you would with your own friends, but the tangents are still informative, if not directly relevant to that particular podcast. The “soft knowledge” I’ve gained from hearing about seemingly irrelevant topics has been really useful in forming a mental mosaic of the larger drone ecosystem and helping me feel like I am a part of it. Rob is the even keel anchor of the show that probes Paul with pointed questions and perspectives. Love this duo and this show. Keep doing what you’re doing.
  • MC1424
Very Informative but can be condescending
Paul has a lot of knowledge...he even wrote a book called the Drone life and how to get started. Great book by the way. And Rob is very straight and to the point. He tries to keep Paul on task. Very informative and the drone business. but the reason that I don’t give it 5 stars is that Paul can sometimes get off topic quickly when you wanted to just answer the question. Paul can go on a rant for using certain products he doesn’t like and including some questions people ask. He makes some great points but the delivery needs to be a little different.
  • Don Tujax
    Ok
The podcast is entertaining. Not much real, helpful information. Questions are typically answered by talking around the subject and mentioning that a full answer is available if you pay a subscription. I don’t doubt the hosts have expertise but the podcast talks down to people who write in with questions as if they should already know the answer. Expect to hear the phrase “Having said that...” a lot which is their way of saying “I really have no clue so I’ll say both sides of the concept. Podcast also typically ends with “On that bombshell...,” and it is rarely a bombshell. Not sure they know what that means. Finally, outro voiceover is long and annoying.

    Great Content
I recently started listening to podcast and about 2 years ago bought my first drone. Looking to expand into the drone industry and do more, I came across The Drone U podcast. I went back through the whole library and downloaded what I thought was good for me. So I just started listening and listening. Writing down good tips and so on. These guys are dedicated. I’ve seen podcast fizzle out. But I’m impressed with their knowledge and wanting to help guys. I look forward to taking some of their training classes when my schedule permits.
  • nickjaco19
    Good show, Lots of advertising
I really like ask drone u, and it gives me lots of useful tips for flying my DJI Spark and taking beautiful pictures and videos. However, often, the first part of the podcast is just advertising for drone u classes and subscriptions. Once you get through that part though, it’s a good podcast.

    Best Advice in the Industry!
I listen to this podcast all the time! Anytime I have a question regarding the drone industry, I cunsult the DroneU podcasts, and as a recent DroneU member, the many resources on the site. DroneU is by far the first place I go to for help. As a 19yr old, DroneU has been extremely helpful when going through the initial steps of starting a business, especially a drone business. I highly recomend this podcast! The fact that my busines is growing is because of DroneU!

    Get to the subject guys...
I keep coming back every other month or so to listen to a podcast randomly because I truly feel like these guys have knowledge to provide, but I’m not going to lie, it’s nearly impossible to get past all the random banter and conversation that precedes the actual info you wanted to hear, not to mention the extremely long intro that seems like it was sampled from the 90’s. Wish you would leave these podcasts for YouTube and cut out all the “extra stuff” on the podcast, it’s just to hard to listen to two guys life’s about work and travel when you can’t see to relate ya know...? Anyways I’ll check back in a couple months again

    Legends!
No words, can properly describe the awesomeness of these two legends. Wether it was a business move, with a gamble, or wether they decided to share knowledge for free till their business would die, because who does that? Either way, they did something with a subject, Drones, and they turned it into a win-win situation by promoting safety, building communities, teaching classes and answering questions on a podcast and YouTube Channel. Both the Podcast and YouTube are for free. I’ve learned so much from them that, I promised and swore, that when I’m ready to incorporate drones into our service, I would do good by them and sign up for all of the classes. Because they did good to me by providing crucial knowledge and information for free. I consider myself to be, VERY, knowledgeable about Drones. I research information and research the sources with the information, credibility and then triple check with The FAA. However, I spent 11 years in the Army and the Army is really good about leadership, and two very valuable lessons, I learned when I was getting ready to get promoted to Sergeant was (1) “always share what you know, produce leaders because you won’t be there forever,” talking about getting promoted to the next rank and preparing someone to take your position as you moving up and (2) “a true leader, never stops learning” The second lesson is very humbling, it requires you to accept you’re not necessarily the best, some one may have a better more effective way for something. So I went on to listen to these two.....and dude! I’ve learned a lot. True legit information, true legit leaders.
  • Greyson23
    Useful but Long Winded
The podcast is useful but there's usually only three to five minutes of useful information in a 10-15 minute episode. And that information is buried in lots banter and advertising, occasionally the speakers lose focus/forget its message. That's distracting and aggravating for a busy pilot. The producers should develop a script, be respectful of listeners' time, and keep the show short.
  • PA Kyle S.
    Two very knowledgeable guys
Awesome podcast for everything drone related, business, and some life lessons mixed in. I’ve learned so much from just listening to you guys about what these awesome pieces of flying equipment can do. It’s also awesome hearing how eager Paul and Rob are to keep learning. You already have a great thing going and with your vision and passion it’s going to keep getting better. Right now I only fly for fun and also fly 700 class RC gas helicopters at AMA fields. Picked up a mavic pro to just get photos and video of heli funflys I get to. Keep up the great work guys. I’m planning on getting the part 107 over the winter in case I decide to use the drone for other things.

Great Podcast for beginners and intermediate pilots
I have been listening to the podcast for a while now and have found it to be really useful for soaking up information during my commute to work every day. If you have been into drones for years and years, you might not find yourself learning from every episode, but they do report on new laws, technology, apps, and provide their experience with new products regularly. The podcast has a culture that is intertwined with their Drone U community, which is extremely useful for pilots at all levels. If you are just getting into drones, I highly recommend listening.
  • Juanito Salamanca
    Very informative/can be negative
Truthfully I love this podcast. The material and knowledge they present is outstanding and can honestly say I’ve been listening for about 2 years and almost listen to the podcast daily when available. Paul is very smart and he is a very experienced pilot and I sometimes get excited to hear his knowledge about certain topics but he literally cannot go 1 episode without bashing someone for their poor skills, or he likes to brag about telling people off and is just all in all very negative. Its almost like he seeks for any possibility to get confrontational. I love how humble Rob is and how smart he is on the business side. I don’t have any negative criticism for him. Great show like a said, but that negativity and arrogance is annoying
  • Jmduffy
    Great information
Great information, very informative. They cover topics that that I had even thought about yet. To come up with a question is almost impossible. Because of the amount of podcasts they’ve done. They have answered so much and very excited to hear future podcasts. And if you ever decided to send me an autographed copy of living the drone life. I would definitely read it. Thanks guys keep up the great work.

    Terrible!
If you want to hear a guy named Paul stroke his ego and brag about how he is the best drone pilot and know it all in the world, this is the podcast for you! As a bonus you also get his annoying laugh for 8-15 minutes at a time. Go elsewhere for drone talk and don’t waste your time.
