Joanna and Mal’s friendship is the highlight of this show. I love the expert analysis of my various shows from two industry insiders, but I enjoy even more these two women talking about companionship, togetherness, and the love they have for each other. It’s so rare to have two nerdy women be so authentically themselves in male-dominated nerd podcasting. Definitely recommend.

Really enjoying the Yellowjackets coverage (possibly more than the season itself…). Joanna is such a deep well of pop culture knowledge, and both she and Mal make such interesting connections - so fun to listen to them break down their theories.

The excessive laughing of Mal on the Yellowjacket recap is annoying. Edit it out. Really like Jo’s takes she deserves a more for professional host.

People who love geeky stuff will love this show! I don’t care for the subject because I’m an adult but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad show! Jo and Mal have a wonderful friendship and when my son is old enough to like Harry Potter and other geeky things, we’ll play it for him so he can learn more about it.

I’ve listened Mallory for years (ever since Binge Mode w Jason) and I now also adore Jo. 💕Like many other listeners, I will watch TV shows just because they are covering them. It feels like I’m listening to my best friends talk about my favorite TV shows in a brilliant and thoughtful way and I’m always impressed by the insights they have. They’re also just so fun!! my only wish is that I wish they had covered Pachinko because I would’ve loved to hear their thoughts and insights on the themes and the filmography.

Joanna is adverse to anything that isn’t white or queer coded.

This is one of my favorite podcasts (if not my favorite). I wish Mal and Jo recapped every show I watch and I could listen to them every day. It makes the watching so much more enjoyable and enriching. I’ve watched shows solely because they are discussing them. I have laughed and cried along with them. I felt almost famous when an e-mail of mine was read on the pod and suggestion used. Cannot recommend more. 10/10 no notes. Love the bad baby life.

Jo, what must it be like to have a wealth of knowledge about completely imaginary pop culture, yet lack even a rudimentary grasp of the world around you? You periodically attempt to veer into political and/or socioeconomic laments on this podcast, but it’s rare enough that I can forgive the “13 year old on TikTok” level of nuance with which you regurgitate other people’s half-formed sentiments. Unfortunately, your most recent hot take on “populism” (a word you understand and apply about as well as you do fascism) in relation to the Penguin and how you see it as somehow analogous to the majority of the country watching a system fail at all levels and wanting to return to actual success as a nation (even if it comes at the cost of mean words on Twitter) was a bridge too far even for a pandering dullard such as yourself. Jo…..you earn* a living by giving your opinion on other people’s contributions to the world. You do not contribute yourself, other than opining about the creations of others. Their creations may be subjectively good or bad, but they are at least of consequence. You…as a thinker…as a creator…as a human being in general.. are not. Your babbling attempt to insert your pouty grievances about things you lack even a child’s comprehension of into a discussion about art you had no part in creating is not just annoying….its sad. Your opinions aren’t even your own. They are the opinions you express in exchange for your social pat on the head and cookie as a “good person” within your regional and professional* peer circle. Your opinions are of no consequence. You don’t matter, Jo. No matter how many times you express your age-inappropriate internet slang musings about television dragons or witches, you won’t matter. When you die, your thoughts about other people’s dragon stories will have played as much of a part in shaping the world you leave behind as you did…..which is to say, not even slightly. Read a book that isn’t fiction, Jo….its revelatory.

I stopped listening for a couple years. I didn’t love the new format of the show. I’ve been enjoying Agatha quite a bit so I thought I would listen to Mals thoughts because she is one of my favorite people to listen to when she loves something. Instead it was Jo constantly reining her in, and not even talking about the episode before going into theories? I used to listen for Mals thoughts, not what Reddit thinks. It’s too bad The Ringer is wasting her like this. Good thing is I don’t have to listen.

This show is almost always a good listen. 9.5/10. But there are often times full 2-3 minute periods where I have to fast forward because they are just laughing at each other with zero content and it's wild wild wild intolerable. And then it's back to 9.5/10 super informed very engaging awesome.

It was the Penguin/Sofia Falcone accent work that reminded me to finally rate and review. Brava!

We at the tire center have this podcast to thank for the best conversations about hobbits and dragons we could ever imagine. No more small talk or shallow water cooler conversations throughout the week. The lovely hosts of the house of R know their stuff and verbalize what some of us can’t or didn’t know we felt. Often endearing but always sharp Joanna and Mallory are the best guides!

I’m a big fan of Joanna’s work. Her analysis and attention to detail set a high bar. I’m only giving 4 stars due to the constant giggling and laughing. Once in a while is fine but it’s almost excessive. I’m glad the cohosts have great chemistry and seem to enjoy each other’s company. Please continue to deep dive into the material and save the continuous cackling for the edit floor.

They make some good points but they are so unbelievably cringy, crass, and thirsty and both takes away from the points the make and poisons the virtue of Tolkien and the show.

I so appreciate Joanna and Mal's perspective-changing analysis, which makes watching and reflecting on the show so much more interesting. In particular, they offer great insight into gender dynamics which other podcasts might glean over. What great voices! Their jokes, giggles, and effervescence makes such a delightful listening experience!

At first I thought hours-long deep dives into HOTD were insane, and then I realized they’re exactly what I need. Thanks Joanna and Mal for a great show! Diving into RoP now just to be able to keep listening to these ladies.

Very few things make me as happy as listening to the House of R. I’m hands down the best podcast out there, especially if you like spending hours at a time thinking about lore, stories, and friendship.

I love these two ladies so much, their chemistry and energy are off the charts, they’re both so so smart, and their minds are in the gutter. My kind of girls. I love this pod!!!

They are smart and capable of great analysis. It’s just so obvious that they are sugar coating their true reactions to maintain a good relationship with HBO. It’s great to have access to the actors and writers… how about also having the ability to give critical and honest criticism and showing up for your audience. This might not be kind but I wish they could be slightly more mature. No need to act like middle school boys about all things sexual. Two grown women can address sex and sexuality without breaking out in laughter. I expect the same of podcasts of all genders not just of Malory and Joanna- Malory and Joanna seem to fail each time.

Stop talking over each other. Please dial it back, please laugh or talk but this talking laugh does not suit the production…AND FOR GOODNESS SAKE MALLORY, STOP COUGHING ON MIC!!

Love that this show exists, and I love these two have such great rapport. Joanna’s analysis is just so much more interesting. It seems like Mallory often is just waiting for her turn to talk - and do a dramatic reading of a text passage - rather than engaging in thoughtful dialogue.

Holy Targoly! This podcast is so freaking smart and funny. Love the vast understanding of the lore and the insights into the show. I do think it’s unfair for people to be this talented but at least we get to listen to it. And I would say this is my favorite HotD cast but I don’t want to hurt the feelings of my other casts.

S02 took a nosedive, but if you didn't watch the show and only listened to this podcast, you'd never know it. Mustn't piss them off if want to keep scoring those interviews, right? It's a shame to see smart, funny people with a severe lack of integrity, knowing they could be so much better.

Ugh I want to love this so much. Excellent content. Mallory, mama, you don’t have to force laugh at everything. It takes me out of the episode nearly every time.

Man, im as liberal as they come and I love this show and listen to them on everything but that last episode is tough. Now I know what those annoying red pilled freaks are talking about when they say people are so scared to live and whiny about these kind of things. The Covid episode was soooo cringe. We get it, you were sick. People get sick. People with tough jobs get sick and have to work. You guys sit and talk about tv, good grief. Either cancel the episode or mention it up top and move on. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten second hand embarrassment and felt the liberal elites thing. Yes this is just a simple podcast episode but man now I get why these are the kind of things that don’t help us come November.

A+ content. They dive so so deep on their analysis and are hilarious. After a big movie or TV show episode comes out, I can’t wait to hear Mal and Jo’s thoughts. It makes my engagement and thoughtfulness with that piece of culture so much more enjoyable. Five stars!!!

These two pod with such joy, it makes me feel like I’m hanging with the best of friends. They bring insights that remind me of my favorite English classes in college- the two favorite professors guiding us through some amazing content. I would watch any show they decide to cover, just so I can listen to more of them.

So I rarely take the time to leave reviews.. but I had been complaining about no deep dive for the HoTD on Wednesday, because I LIVE for them. Now knowing these girls have Covid and still did 4 hours of quality entertainment is so meaningful to me. Thanks for that girls. I’m so poor right now, but when I get money I’ve definitely donating.
