Boneheads with Emily Deschanel and Carla Gallo

TV & Film #62

It’s time to travel back to the Jeffersonian – this time, with an insider tour from the squint squad who made “Bones” one of the longest-running primetime dramas in TV history. Emily Deschanel (Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan) and Carla Gallo (Daisy Wick) are besties who met on set and are ready to take you back to the beginning, episode by episode. How did the show start?  Which first-season episode aired out of order? Why did the Angelator become the Angelatron? And shouldn’t Brennan have been wearing gloves or something when she was reconstructing that skull? (The answer is yes.) Emily and Carla will also interview the cast, the crew, the directors, and the producers who made the show so special. Whether you’re a new watcher or already King of the Lab, we promise this rewatch will save you from ever saying “I don’t know what that means” again.

I loved Bones. I hate that these ladies feel they have to apologize for being racist. The show is not . The episode they apologize for isn’t saying all Muslims are bad but that there is a small percentage of stereotypes that rings true. Just stop. Acknowledge it and move on

    Love the Podcast!
Bones is my absolute favorite show! This podcast has been so wonderful! Looking back on 12 seasons of Brennan and Booth and all of the Squints! (And Ms. Julian, who was a riot)! The BTS memories and hearing how different things came about have been so much fun! My only issue is that I wish the podcast was longer!! Wednesdays are my favorite day cause we get a new “Boneheads “!! Definitely 5 stars!!

    Love Love Love this show
I am a huge fan of Bones & this podcast makes it feel like Emily & Carla are my friends! I absolutely adore them both! I love the format of the episodes and the behind-the-scenes look at the episodes and the interviews with other cast/production members. So thrilled Emily & Carla brought this podcast to life.

    Love you gals!
So glad I ran across this! Bones is one of my fave rewatches, seen the whole series at least a dozen times and I still cry every time I get to the last episode (and the Sweets episode)

The podcast we’ve been waiting for!
So glad this is finally happening and loving the recaps, behind the scenes memories, and the interviews. I also really enjoy the start of the episode chats and Emily and Carla’s banter; it is fun and conversational and feels like listening to a couple of your friends catching up over lunch and reminiscing which is so fun. I’m thankful Emily and Carla decided to share any and all of this with the fans, am loving every episode and look forward to the seasons ahead! I’m a long time listener of The Bones Booth fan made rewatch podcast too,and would gently suggest some of the other reviewers who didn’t find their own *very* specific ideas met in this podcast might enjoy TBB and their scene by scene recaps. Boneheads fills the longtime desire of us fans for a rewatch “from the inside” with all the incredible insights of two of the stars and their guests, and we get to enjoy their humor and the friendships built during the show! P.S. Can’t wait for merch!

Not sure what I was hoping for, but this isn’t it.
I was really, really trying to get into this podcast. I was really hoping they would talk about the show, maybe the effects? But they constantly talk over each other, with loads of drawling “yessss” and other eye rollingly bad fillers that add nothing to the podcast. It also seems like a decent amount of time is spent talking about who they want to have on the podcast, or who will be on the podcast eventually. I enjoy podcasts where you feel like you can take in conversations, and even feel like you’re a part of it with proper spacing, that have outlines and aren’t just people aggressively agreeing with each other loudly over and over. I felt bad because at one point I rolled my eyes and said out loud in the car, “Oh my GOODNESS, just SHUT UP.” That’s when it hit me, maybe I’m not the target audience for two women loudly talking to one another and over each other, while talking kind of inappropriately about how sexy some people are and how gross other things are. I guess this isn’t for me, but I tried because when I was younger I really liked the show.

    Pros and cons
I love this show, you do a great job recapping the episodes and love hearing the reminiscing of memories. However, please stop talking over each other. Respect each others time to speak and wait for the sentence to be done before saying your part. It is very frustrating as a listener.

    Even better than Bones!
Emily’s memory is so rich and the podcast has a fun and fascinating look into the making of a tv show. Very much enjoying this podcast!

    carla PLEASE
i truly hope to change this review but after trying to listen to the “pilot” episode. (it took me four days) i truly hope carla just lets emily talk. not sure how many “yes queens” from weho she has around her but please relax and read the room. it’s very try hard to listen to carla talk like a meme as well as do the " me me me " over emily. IT IS OKAY TO BE SILENT AND LISTEN.

    Needs more structure
I adore Bones and desperately want to love this Podcast but they talk too fast, talk over each other too much and focus too little on the episode they are supposed to be discussing. Please get some structure, stick to it (or edit the unrelated comments out) and PLEASE focus on the reason we are all trying to listen.

    Out of touch
Just listened to the 113 episode and OMG are these two so out of touch with reality. You dare to mock people that are donating used underwear and even have the gall to say no one wants your used underwear. How lucky for you both that you’ve never NEEDED to receive used underwear. I’m not going to continue listening and supporting this podcast after those types of comments being made

    Really wanted to love
I really wanted to love the podcast because Bones is one of my comfort shows. I listen to other rewatch podcast and have always enjoyed them. This is the first rewatch podcast that is actually almost making me like the show less. While I think they have an outline of how they plan to present an episode. They often seem to get sidetracked and then never seem to be able to course correct back to where they were. While sidetracked they often talk over each other where neither one wants to be the one that pauses and listens. This failure to pause to allow the other to finish their thought does seem to come more often from Carla as she seems so eager to express her point that she is unable to stop herself. I really think they need a third person to help them stay on track and maybe provide some of the narrative of the episode they are watching so we can actually get to and through the entire episode. They also need to add “segments” to the show that listeners know are coming and can look forward to. For example, Talkville has the rating and Ryan’s favorite scene; Drama Queens has superlatives, the wheel and honorable mentions. The one thing I really like about the show is that they do seem to be reading social media and are the only rewatch podcast I have listened to that when they ask questions of fans in one episode they actually follow up with responses they have received in follow up episodes. This could be one of their regular segments and garner fan interaction.

Great find for fans of the show!
Just found this in 2025. As a fan of the show Bones, I find this delightful and so fun! The banter between Emily and Carla is hilarious. And it’s so great to hear the inside scoop on each episode. I highly recommend this.

    Hard to hear
I’d be interested in listening to this podcast but it’s too difficult! Emily and Carla speak over each other constantly and I can’t hear a thing. I’m sure it’s perfectly fine for the people having the conversation but it’s impossible for listeners to follow.

    Oh god no.
    Idiotic and low intelligence vibes.

    Favorite Show
Bones was a favorite show of mine. Personally, I would like to hear a little more about the episode of the week. Emily has a great radio voice, is interesting, funny and polite.
  • Katyperyyfan
    Talk about the show more
Weirdly enough, they don’t talk about the show enough. Too many Hollywood stories that have no connection to the show or the themes of the show.
  • Wildfire sweetie
Exactly what I needed in my life.
I don’t know why I’m posting this online but I’ve seen Bones 9 times. All the way through. All 12 seasons. I love this so much. Temperance Brennen is the first strong female character that I saw myself in. I watched it the first time on cable TV with my grandmother as a kid. I have always been fascinated with science but the character development of this show is honestly next level. Bones is my comfort show and just listening to y’all is surreal. I’m living for this please keep this going!
  • BellaFranklin
    I adore this!!
I am the exact target for this podcast because I love cast rewatch podcasts, I love listening to friends have a conversation, and I watch Bones so often that I sometimes forget it ended years ago. It’s so lovely listening to Emily and Carla chit chat. I’m so so so happy this exists and will listen to as many episodes as they produce <3

    I want to love this… but I don’t
I loved Bones, I watched it religiously every week my son k Is named Parker and my husband really had to fight me on Temperance for our daughter (we used another name). I love Emily and Carla but I need more of the show and less of their lunch dates and I want to hear more of the episodes discussed and less of their life after. I would love to hear them discuss that stuff on a different podcast maybe about friendships, or for inspiring actors but Boneheads should have more Bones in it. I’m not giving up on them but I hope they find a grove soon!

    Love Bones
I love Bones. I’ve watched it completely many times. I want to love this podcast but it’s hard when everyone over each other so you can’t understand what they’re saying. I think if they (Carla!) stop doing that, it will be great.

    Amen
Godly Christian women talking about a show they did years ago. God bless! 🙏🏽

    Missed opportunity
Unsubscribed!!! Sounds like two immature teen aged girls discussing s3x. “Bones” was an OK series. I liked the scientific aspect. There were three things that made the show only “OK”. 1. Every episode had somebody sleeping with another after only knowing them for minutes sometimes. 2. Booth was the worst at immediately sleeping with acquaintances, yet he was supposed to be a”morally upright Catholic”. Not sure if it was an intentional bias against Christianity or Catholics in particular. 3. Booth is a bully in interrogation. He would have been fired and possibly jailed for his tactics. The only benefit of his behavior is that hopefully anybody who watched his tactics learned that whether not guilty or guilty, never go into interrogation without a lawyer.

    potential is there
I love the tv show, and I love these actresses, but this podcast is stressful and not there yet. They need a structure. The talking over each other and guests leading to side stories that interrupt side stories that never finish - it’s not a fun listening experience. Also seems like they barely talk about and watch the episodes. Hoping they figure it out soon.
  • RoSho14
    Love Bones!
I love Bones and have watched it several times. One of my favorites. While I was hoping for the best, this is just such a hard podcast to listen to. The episode doesn’t get talked about at all. They spend most of the time on tangents and not talking about the episode itself. I would love it if it changed to talking about each scene as it comes and the actors within the scene and the solving of the crimes is such a huge part of the show and it’s just not getting spoken about at all. I really hope that this changes because right now it’s so hard to listen to. Although I do really love Emily and Carla. I’ll try and hang in there.
  • Gertrude_925
    Not there yet
I may need to unfollow this and come back in a while. I had high hopes for real show-related content and this isn’t that. I abandoned the Hart Hanson episode 1/3 of the way through because he was a third wheel rather than a guest being interviewed. Love the show forever and always but am bummed so far with the podcast.
  • imcrystal99
    Loving this!
I am gonna watch along with y’all! This is my 3 time watching. The first when it originally aired the 2nd last summer! I absolutely love BONES! And I am loving hearing y’all feedback and getting an inside view of the show! Well done! 👏👏👏

    I love this!!!
They have an amazing synergy and great family vibes. I just finished rewatching all of the seasons for the second time and I was feeling so sad that it ended. This is a such an amazing way to keep the series alive! I just love it!!

    Hard to follow
Let me start by saying I love Bones! It’s my go to show and I’ve watched start to finish multiple times. I was so excited when I saw this. I was hoping for more interviews with other cast members. It’s very hard to follow because they talk very fast and over one another constantly. Even my husband who is listening for the first time asked if they always talk over one another. This could be a gem if they could stop doing that, stay on track, and share more about the other actors and behind the scenes things.
  • slpsite
Not much time on the episode
I listened to the first 5 episodes and agree with most reviews they tend to go off topic quite a bit. One of my favorite episodes ( The boy in the Bush ) they probably spent 10 maybe 15 minutes of the 50 minutes talking about the episode. It’s not like all the talk between them is uninteresting it’s just too much and not enough about the episode
  • JustAnotherPodHead
    Must Listen
I LOVE this show!!! I think they offer refreshing stances and insight into each episode. They also are so fun to listen to and just sound like they are hanging out. As a several decade long Bones fan this podcast is everything!

Emily’s voice is music to my ears
No shade to Carla, but listening to Emily’s voice is so soothing.

    Stop Talking Over Each Other
Please follow the office ladies and don’t speak over each other and limit the banter. The banter is fine but the show needs structure.
  • smartypants6363
    Disappointed
This podcast is too hard to listen to. Emily and Carla spend 95% of each episode speaking over each other. It is amazing how much commentary Carla can give on episodes she’s not even in. The episodes lack structure. I think they’re in need of new producers and editors.

    Staying for Improvement
First, huge fan of The Office and Office Ladies. That’s the standard coming into this podcast. Loved Bones as a young teen, it was part of my childhood and watching with older sister every week! Super excited for this podcast and holding out through the growing pains that are part of the first few episodes while the Emily and Carla get in the groove of a rewatch podcast. Listen suggestion: talk slower, speak one at a time more often, use tangents sparingly. Best of luck! Hoping for the best!

    Fun podcast..
A must for all Bones fans!

    Needs work
I want to love this podcast, but to me, it needs work. It feels scattered and organized. The hosts talk over each and finish each others’ sentences and it feels confusing. I loved Bones, and I really do like the hosts. I just don’t enjoy listening to these podcasts. It’s giving “anxiety inducing “. They could slow down, focus on behind the scenes and the real stories/science behind the plots. I can’t wait for them to get better at this and into a solid groove of podcasting.
  • BaileyTalks
    My new favorite podcast!!
Reading these reviews I feel like a lot of people have never listened to a podcast before. I am LOVING this rewatch podcast. Carla and Emily are doing an amazing job dissecting each episode of a show that meant so much to me!! I look forward to listening each week!!
  • 8etchy
Love but please stop talking over each other
I don’t want to rewind multiple times just to be unable to catch what you’re saying. I get it that you’re friends and probably speaking the way you would in day to day dialogue but you have an audience who would like to know what’s happening. Thanks to take this into consideration and hopefully we can see some awareness in the next few episodes.

    Excited
Loved the show, love these ladies. Very excited for this podcast but for the love of god stop talking over each other!!!!!

    Lame Lemonada
Lemonada buys their likes. Embarrassing and fraudulent. Watch out.
  • WaterlillyMonet
    More Emily
I agree with other reviewer that it needs more structure. Emily gets very little time to even finish her thought or story before she is talked over. I bet like many others, I am here for the Star of Bones. Carla’s life stories don’t interest me.
  • google fangirl
    Poor version of Office Ladies
I really enjoyed Bones but this podcast isn’t growing my love of the show. It’s fine that the ladies have banter but I do wish there was more structure to the podcast- particularly sharing details of behind the scenes. I can watch the episode myself and see the details but what I cannot do myself is hear about the what the guest stars are doing now, what the dialogue would have been but was ultimately on tv, etc. Overall, the structure is nonexistent and I’d prefer more structure.

    Finally! So excited!
I heard rumors about this podcast several months ago, and was so excited when I realized it’s finally started! I love the show Bones, have rewatched the series a couple times, but this is going to be so fun to “watch” along with you and here all the cold goss. 😉
  • Dhcdunhkoitdfbkifcnjdayigl
    Work in Progress
This is the podcast I’ve been waiting for! I loved this show and am excited to relive every episode. It needs some tweaks in the form of editing. Both actors talk over each other; it’s impossible to hear what is being said and I feel I’m missing out on all the “hot goss”, as they frequently say :) Carla’s voice comes across as much louder and is more prominent, drowning out Emily’s voice. Just a few changes will make this an amazing podcast!
  • Sheebaelaine
    Yes!!
The first episode was awesome, can’t wait to finish what’s already available, and excited to see more! Thanks to all involved.💕

    Bones
Slow down and quit talking at same time . I find you two very annoying to listen to.

    Stop talking over each other
I watched Bones every week when it was on and have rewatched the whole thing at least 3 times. I was excited for this podcast and have enjoyed the behind the scenes info and memories. But, for goodness sake! PLEASE ATOP TALING OVER EACH OTHER! It is very difficult to listen and follow the convo when you both get so excited and start taking even faster and on top of each other. Slow down and let the other person finish their sentence/thought. Please and thank you!
  • MMM NYC
We Want to Hear About the Show More
I love Bones and want to continue listening but the podcast needs to be more about the show and not about random thoughts. Please Carla let Emily speak. I know you want to add your two cents and it’s tough to cover episodes you weren’t on but every time Emily starts to dive into a memory or insight you interrupt with a personal story :/
