History #230

Whether it's the debauchery of ancient Roman emperors, the Tudor crime family, the shenanigans behind the Chair of St. Peter, or the Austrian elites’ attempts to save themselves by trading their daughters to other royal houses, it turns out that our betters have always been among our worst. Join Alicia and Stacie from Trashy Divorces as we turn our jaded eyes to a different kind of moral garbage fire: Trashy Royals! Thursdays. Brought to you by Hemlock Creatives.

    I can’t follow
Just one decent sentence that can make people follow you. It’s annoying

    Reformation
Terrible job describing the difference between the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant. Superficial and loaded with inaccuracies.

You will laugh, sometimes cry, and always be entertained
Hands down my favorite podcast! Alicia and Stacie do a wonderful job of teaching history but making it fun and incredibly entertaining. You get the juicy components of royals, scandal and intrigue all while learning about real people and events. Do yourself a favor and listen!

    History is fun!
Love the show. I listen to all of them. I love History too
  • Fly guy 2022
Have enjoyed all of the episodes except the one regarding Camilla…and Margaret Pole lots incorrect
This was a VERY biased episode. Very pro-Diana and very pro-Harry. I am a Diana fan, but to use Harry’s book as a reference as to what happened around Diana’s death is just a farce. Harry’s book has proven lies in it. Diana chose to not stay put at the hotel, and to not wear a seatbelt. Diana had numerous admitted affairs. Charles crime is loving one woman his entire life. One woman whom he married and has loved for over 50+ years. They have done amazing work. Time to move on from this narrative. I couldn’t even finish this episode it was so bad. Very disappointing. Margaret Pole’s episode had incorrect dates (kept saying 1578 in the beginning for things happening in the 1400’s), Margaret shared the Royal nursery with Edward IV’s children not Henry IV’s, and true historians have debunked the claim that she was running and being chased around the scaffolding based on contemporary evidence by individuals who were witnesses. I like your show but it makes it hard to listen to when incorrect information is in your episodes.

    Really engaging!

Stacey is the most passive aggressive politically uneducated person I have ever heard. Just stop running every show with you mean spirited snide commentary. Alicia is a good host and you ruin every show for her. Read the room lady no one cares about you political stance and you obsession with hating anything good.

    Fun History
I am really enjoying this podcast. The casual TS lyric references are great. You speak in the way my brain works. Fun to listen to and learn.
  • 1985pod
Endless name dropping and minimal narrative
I enjoy the informal style with nicknames etc, but Alicia in particular seems way more interested in “spiderwebs”, and “connections” than actual historical events. For example episode ostensibly about a real estate mogol instead was nothing but a list of the celebrities who visited her hotel. Meanwhile, the whole lives of fascinating historical figures (John of Gaunt, Anne of Denmark) are quickly skimmed over to save time for more “connection” lists.

    Millennials grr
You people really talk like this? Why is everything dumbed down these days for the millennial crowd? Drunk history, Drunk Shakespeare? This is childish. I’ll stick to Not Just the Tudors, where information is presented intelligently.
  • spinfrog
    So idiotic it's u-listeble
If "John of Gaunt" and "Kathrine" is too difficult for your pea brains and you need it dumbed down to "Jonny G" and "CATHIE", maybe this show is for you.

    Wildly Inaccurate
I really wanted to like this. The hosts are great and I love all the topics they cover but my goodness the inaccuracies abound. I listened to 2 episodes and quit because of all of the errors.

    😩
I’m here for royal history - not Taylor Swift. It took me three tries to get through the weak lyrics of hers you spent wayyyyy too much time reciting.

My Favorite Thing on the Internet
I absolutely LOVE this podcast! Combines my favorite things: history, gossip, royals, sex, murder, and great hosts. Very glad that I found y’all. Well researched, thoughtful, and funny commentary. Can’t wait for more episodes. I’m sure you’ll cover Henry VIII at some point and I’m pumped for that!

    The podcast I didn’t know I needed!
Trashy Royals has it all. Two whip-smart hosts, plenty of trash to tarnish those crowns, but with a side of justification because I am learning something about history. Right?!
  • janiebelle8
    Enjoyed the Trashy Uncles
I’ve read a lot of English history so I enjoyed this one. I remember reading when William was King in the last years of his life he wore galoshes to keep from getting sick to keep Victoria’s Mother becoming regent. And after he was named king he rode around and said, “who is silly Billy now?”

    Lost Stars
Hey y’all! I subscribe to several shows and love your usual objectivity. This most recent show, Queen Camilla, highlights one side of the story. Please don’t kowtow to the opinions of a guest, it’s okay to challenge their biases. Lord knows in this particular family story there are sides no one will ever know and to broadcast the vocal side’s “truths” is poor form. Y’all are better than this.
