dsasaphrasLove this show!I’m really enjoying this show! I just started a rewatch and I’m following along with the guys and I’m loving their first go round perspective. I saw the show when it first aired a million years ago and then had a great time binging it with my children when they were little. Listening in while they watch with no clues about the future is a lot of fun. I’m constantly mentally nudging them along like a bowler trying to turn a gutter ball into a strike. I just finished the first season and I’m looking forward to the rest of the show. Gonna check out their other stuff when I’m done with Babylon 5

DundradalExcellent podcast!Jeff and Brent each bring unique opinions and viewpoints to their first time experience. They’ve made me appreciate episodes I didn’t always before. Always excited to hear them on Monday morning.

Darth KahlessThe Longer I Listen…The worse it gets. Be prepared for a lot of “Well, Akshully’s…” Couple of typical “Berman/Braga Trek” fans; think their non-Roddenberry Trek is the only Trek. Every criticism they level at this show could be leveled at the Bermanverse x10. Can’t “handle” TOS; but Harry Potter? Ewww…

Ju-san KuboGreat Show!!This is exactly what a veteran watcher loves to listen to; going on the virgin journey with a new watcher. There are other podcasts that have the same type of theme, but this show does it so much better. Well done!!

JaredSch10Shadows and Vorlons scare meI don’t know if I will finish this podcast or ever finish all of Babylon 5. I’ve just been listening to random episodes of this podcast to bring back memories from my high school days. But the shadows and vorlons always scared me and when that storyline ended, my interest waned. I did watch the call to arms movie and that was cool but that was it for Babylon 5 and me. Maybe one day I’ll watch the rest and listen to the rest of this podcast but I get scared thinking about the shadows in particular. It haunts me.

Pazuzu (Captain Howdy)A great pod for Babylon BeginnersI found this podcast after watching The Gathering pilot movie and immediately enjoyed the chemistry between the co-hosts. You can tell they’re genuine friends and the experiences of their lives seeps through into the podcast as well. It’s nice to have some wise, seasoned people for such a complex, intuitive show like Babylon 5. What initially turned me on to the podcast was that they were watching it for the first time so I knew there wouldn’t be spoilers for future episodes and story arcs. They do a great job all around and the episodes of the podcast get better as the episodes of the show get better. This pod will always have a special place in my heart in the future when I know I’ll be listening to the other Babylon 5 podcasts out there after I finish the show as I know I’ll probably rewatch Babylon 5 again and again. (It’s just one of those shows.) Thanks Jeff and Brent! I hope you guys do more than just Babylon 5 later. I’ve never seen DS9 so I’d like an episode by episode podcast of that with the two of you if that’s ever something you’d be interested in doing.

TheCrazyPlayerThere's Nothing Like the First TimeI came across this incredible podcast on YouTube, and I'm so glad I did. As someone who watched Babylon 5 way back when it first aired, I'm seperated from my first watching experience by decades. Listening to Brent and Jeff go through the series for the first time, hearing their thoughts, comments, guesses, and predictions has been such wonderful nostalgia. Brent & Jeff: "Is this the episode where a disease breaks out on the station?" Me: "No, we'll get there." Brent & Jeff when we get there: "OH MY GOD!!!" Me: "Yup. Definitely *not* Star Trek." Thanks for letting me com along for your First Time, guys. P.S. Watch the YouTube version, if you can. It's even more fun than the audio version!

MycroftCARousing team of reviewersI’m a watcher from the very beginning of the series and I have watched all of the sequels and read the novels. The insights that the guys express fascinate me and I look forward to each episode dropping. I hope that they will cover all of the material including Crusade!

TKH9Show that perfectly fuses B5 & Star TrekI’ve been a longtime fan of both B5 and Trek. Brent and Jeff do a great job of introducing B5 to new viewers while helping longtime fans like me relive the excitement we felt watching the series more than 25 years ago. Their links to Trek show both franchises can coexist harmoniously. I’m doing a slow rewatch of B5 and it’s been great hearing their perspective of Season 3, which I consider to be the best season of sci-fi of any show. I heartily recommend the pod.

Sci Fi GrandmaAkin and Allen’s Discovery ExperienceJeff Akin and Brent Allen openly and honestly reflect on their own experience while watching the science fiction series Babylon 5 for the first time, and it’s a bit disappointing. I’ve been saying for years that Babylon 5 is the best TV series ever written, for a whole host of reasons. Now that these podcasters are midway through the 4th season, I (SciFiGrandma), need to rethink my 5-star rating. They made a big deal about a giveaway several months ago, and then never followed up. It is also biased against differences - certain traits like humility are expressed differently from one person to another, from one culture to another, yet Brent and Jeff apply labels based on their definitions and standards, rather than judging a person by his/her own cultural standards. For example Spock is an unemotional stone by human standards, but is an overemotional hybrid by Vulcan standards. Alien characters need to be given the benefit-of-doubt for quirky behavior that doesn’t fit human sensibilities. On more than one occasion I have felt that females were judged by male standards, not as women who are women, strong while also being vulnerable. Hoping this trend corrects itself.

Martok84Great podcastAs a big fan of Star Trek, Stargate, BSG and Babylon 5 I really like hearing about your experiences and how you slowly realize how great the story of B5 is in the same way I experienced watching it two decades ago. This has been a fun journey and I hope you guys do Stargate at some point as well. Qapla’

IVooDooDaddyIGreat Look at a Great SeriesI watched B5 when it was new and I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t watched the series in a while but this podcast got me back into and now I’m watching it with them. It feels like a book club for sci-fi TV and now my life is changed. I love this show and this podcast. Thank you and please keep it up. Live long and, oh wait, wrong show! D’oh!

N4TALIIt’s another 5 star review!!!I found out about this podcast about 3 days after finishing my very own first watch of Babylon 5. I knew I would be coming back to this show, but didn’t realize I would be diving back in right away. I binged the podcast on YouTube (cough, 65, cough) until I got all caught up and the experience is even better being able to watch the episode, watch the Brent watches, and wait for Monday for the full conversation. I am so glad that my babylon 5 for the second time experience is along side Brent and Jeff. Ya’ll better be serious about Stargate because I was going to watch that for the first time next and I’m postponing waiting for the podcast lol.
-
Dawcter_StrangeTheir GRReight!!I started late to the podcast. And just caught up with Jeff and Mutt -- Sorry Laurel and Costello -- Mr Akin and Mr Allen. Joking aside I like how the two of you don't just like at the show as written, but see what the deeper thought was. You even showed my a few thing in a way I did not see them in. And I'd like to tell you how --- well those are spoilers my good sir. Until them all I have for you is a "Old Egyptian Blessing - Capt. John Sheridan [JMS]".

S SunflowersSo much funI watched Babylon 5 as a kid when it aired, and it is still the most important work of art in my life. I need a shirt that has the old “everything I needed to know about life” trope, lol. I’m enjoying everything about listening to these guys discover my favorite show for the first time. They’re super insightful and respectful of the show even when pointing out it’s flaws. It’s a great podcast for your first view or fiftieth.

DrNASA_NCThe ‘Mission Log’ for Babylon 5 you’re looking forThis is an outstanding podcast that doesn’t jump the B5 timeline and spoil anything that is to come so it’s perfect if you, like the hosts are a new comer to the B5 universe or an old down-below-er looking to revisit B5 and mine it with deep dramaturgical, philosophical, social and in-universe analysis. Finding the messages, morals, Minbari and meanings in B5 from the background of doing the same for Star Trek, this is fun and worth your time. Enjoy!

WmMurray1211The Circle Is Now CompleteB5 was my gateway to Trek. Now many years later after watching every episode of Trek, I am revisiting Babylon 5 and having a blast experiencing through the Trekkie/B5 newbie eyes of this fantastic podcast.

thistle0331Great podcastAs a fan of B5 from the first airing of the show, I am seriously enjoying this podcast. I discovered it during my most recent rewatch and am having such fun listening to the speculation from two guys who have never seen the show. I find myself yelling “Yes!” when they get something right and chuckling over the things that are miles away from being right. And I am really looking forward to their reactions to some of the upcoming episodes. I give it 5 star furies! Keep up the great work!

CherndawgI love love love this show (mostly)I recently started a rewatch of Babylon 5, and discovered this podcast. The idea of two Star Trek Podcasters, watching, and reviewing Babylon 5 from beginning to end is equal parts enthralling and infuriating (in a good way!) Listening to these guys watch the episodes and enjoy them, while referencing Star Trek along the way, is a ton of fun. Hearing their theories and hearing their interpretations of different clues and ideas is fantastic. And sometimes hilarious, and startling when they tease out major plot points, sometimes a full season ahead. It’s also infuriating when they focus in on the weirdest throwaway part of an episode, and demand it come back around in later episodes. The most frustrating moments for me are when the hosts miss the point of an episode or complain that there was no moral to a serialized, story driven episode. While I absolutely love listening to these guys watch the series, there are times I wish they could just sit and enjoy the show for what it is, without comparing or reviewing, even if it means we lose a great podcast as a consequence. Still, this is a great listen. It takes a couple episodes to find the rhythm, and almost 20 hours for one of the hosts to reliably say a characters name correctly (which is totally fine at first, but becomes grating by episode 15, TKO). But eventually everything come together to be a show I’m hopelessly addicted to, even if I sometime angrily yell at the hosts while I’m listening…. Which, if I’m being honest, is part of the fun.

ZocaloMerchantGreat Babylon 5 podcastI’m a relatively new fan of the show, having watched it for the first time this year. Now, I’m on my second rewatch and listening to all the B5 podcasts out there. I really enjoy hearing Brent and Jeff’s opinions about each episode. And, the Discord community for this podcast is wonderful too!
-
mminuteGreat SciFi funI watched `Babylon 5` as a kid when it originally aired in the mid 90’s. This podcast has been a fantastic way to revisit one of my favorite childhood shows while pulling out all the complexity and nuance that flew over my smooth little baby brain at the time. I’ve never rewatched the series but Jeff and Brent do a FANTASTIC job of jogging my memory with their recaps while providing engaging and thought provoking context and analysis. If you’re a fan of B5, Star Trek, or any other science fiction this might be a show for you.

Doug C from the Hudson ValleyLove the Show and This Podcast!I originally watched Babylon 5 what seems like decades ago (AND IT WAS!) I watch the series almost every year and love it as much today as I did yesterday. But this review is about the podcast, not the series. So what can I say. Jeff and Brent bring a unique perspective to Babylon 5. I appreciate they do not hesitate to hold JMS’s feet to the fire while still loving the plot and all the twists and turns the series makes. Welcome to the fandom! Oh and since you are now done with series 3, I have one thing to say…No Spoiler, I Promise! That one thing is MORDENANNA. A Late Delivery From Avalon is one of my least favorite episodes, but I'll let you ponder that, regardless. Be Well. Doug.
-
Dave AnthonySo much nuance!!As a long time fan of Babylon 5 I have really enjoyed catching up on Jeff and Brent's Journey through one of the my favorite shows for the first time! They offer a nuanced and fresh perspective through another of my favorite lenses, Star Trek! Thrill each week as they nail prediction after predicton....until they don't....and laugh along as they call out Dr Franklin for being the absolute WORST!
-
Johnnycheesecake12345Good stuff!Very much enjoying listening to these guys discover my favorite show Has anyone told them the cast put out an album?
-
LindsaykwardellYou had me at TKOI first heard Jeff talk about Babylon 5 when he appeared on another podcast discussing the episode TKO, and as a longtime fan I loved hearing his points and perspective on an episode I alway enjoyed. I started listening to this podcast at the start of season 2, and it quickly became my favorite podcast. I’m always excited to hear Jeff and Brent talk about the show and make their predictions. Their friendliness and excitement is what keeps me coming back for more. Thank you both for a fantastic show!

DibbiousB5 for the first time is goodI like this podcast

AdonohoThey are Grey …As a first run viewer of B5, I am so happy I’ve stumbled upon these guys. Their enthusiasm for SF, Star Trek, and B5 is infectious. The best parts of the show are the predictions about the next episode based solely on the title. Their riffs on B5’s themes and how they tie it all into modern SF TV and movies is really entertaining and thought provoking. They’ve got me waiting each week for their takes. WoW, Z-14 days! I even have my old Revell Starfury model out and am thinking about finally putting my Revell B5 Station model together. This is so much fun! Anon, Andrew

Jacob GarfinkelWay better than I thought it could beI’ve been in love with Babylon 5 since I saw the pilot air when I was 9 years old. “There is a hole in your mind” has been living rent free in its own hole in my mind for the last 30 years now! I initially started listening to a different podcast (Grey 17, still listening to them too) that Jeff guest starred on for the episode TKO - I loved his breakdown of the episode which was a fresh viewpoint to me so I knew had to give this show a listen. Man am I glad I did! Since I first watched B5 so long ago and at an early age, it’s amazing to see (hear) these two gentlemen’s adult perspectives on a first time watch of what is my favorite tv show ever. I also love Star Trek and grew up watching Kirk and Picard (buzzzzzz!) but to me Babylon 5 just has such a realism that makes it hit harder. They acknowledge that bathrooms exist! The writing and acting are top notch (mostly) and the plot twists and turns are like a beautiful mountain highway - the drive is amazing with some great surprises along the way. That describes this podcast to me as well and now I can’t wait for my Monday morning drive to work so I can listen to a new episode. Can’t wait for Babylon 5 for the Second time now! Oh, and one last thing - while I like the Aladdin genie quote about the rule of 3, I really feel like you missed out by not using the Monty Python line about “the number of the counting shall be 3” and so on with the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch from their Holy Grail movie.
-
CurNon4Wonderful showI have watched Babylon 5 all the way through at least 5 times and watched most of Star Trek. Seeing one of my favorite shows through the lens of Star Trek is so amazing. I love seeing their journey through the show and their predictions. This is a must listen to. And remember No Spoilers!

Superfly3000Babylon 5, Leadership, and Parenting Had a BabyCaught half of the series the first time in college. Now I want to go through the entire show and this is the perfect compaction discussion points. They recognize that Sci-Fi shows has a mix of good and terrible acting. Some stories are great and some are cringeworthy. Love the discussion points. I’m learning about leadership and parenting along the way. Now my kids have to ask and grant forgiveness as well. Looking forward to the rest of the show. Hardest part is waiting a week to watch with them!

EljefetacomaCall me KoshmaelThese two good boys are smart, thoughtful, sociall conscious, and have all the Star Trek knowledge you need to analyze a non-Star Trek property. Where's Kosh? What happened to Katherine? I'm not caught up yet so I have no idea!

B2pixWe Have Always Been HereI watched Babylon 5 for the First Time myself back in the 90s as it aired. I followed JMS (the creator) on Usenet week on week as he discussed each episode and with a group of friends, we'd meet for lunch each week after an airing to discuss our theories. Watching these two throwing the same kinds of theories out that we did then brings a level of nostalgia to my favorite show that is indescribable as they are both right on with their theories and predictions and way off. I'm enjoying the ride that is Babylon 5 again through their eyes.

Imbri/DianeTHE Reason to begin listening to Podcasts!I do not listen to podcasts. I have Never listened to podcasts. I had Absolutely Zero Interest in exploring the podcasting world! But when my dear, dear friend Would Not Shut Up about how Good this podcast was I gave in. I literally had to ask, “So how does one listen to podcasts, anyway?” I was an Enormous Babylon 5 fan back in the day! LOVED The Show! Thoroughly! I just finished the podcast recap of Season 1 and am So Excited to relive my 30-year JOY with Jeff and Brent! It’s rekindled my slumbering Love for this show and I’m seeing some the episodes in a new light. Thank you both for a Fun Journey! Onward to Season Two!
-
Good podcast, give it a listenVery Good Podcast!I find this to be a really refreshing podcast. Especially Jeff gives a unique perspective on how well he thinks things work.Even when I disagree, I find him interesting. I'm much more like Brent with how much I like it to just GO! I usually listen while on the YouTube, so I get the special edition. :)

Ashtonbm25My Favorite Podcast. This pod cast takes me back to a happy time in my life. In the late 90’s My good and Dear Friend Josh and I would would eat tater tots, play the Babylon 5 Collectable Card Game and debate what was going to happen next in our favorite show. We would spend hours debating the shows outcome and through our host I can relive that feeling. It is clear that Brent and Jeff enjoy their subject matter. Every week, they are well prepared and professional. They approach every episode with curiosity, excitement and kindness. They may not love every episode, but they always approach the discussion with intelligent debate. Thank you for allowing the rest of us to tag along on your journey through Babylon 5

N. A. MillerFresh Eyes on a ClassicMy mother got me into B5 during its original run. It wasn't on for long locally, so we had to wait for my aunt to record episodes, and mail them to us on a VHS. I got my own DVDs shortly after they came out, and have occasionally binged it over the years. Then HBO Max remastered it, and I had been working through it again, but had petered out. Then I was reading a review for the new video game Star Trek: Resurgence, and the reviewer mentioned this podcast. I was hooked after the first episode, and started catching up as fast as I could, and watching the show again too. I'd hoped to catch up in time for Shattered Dreams, but didn't quite make it. At least, I'll be there for War Wi..., wait, that might be considered a spoiler; we'll just say s3e16. Part of what makes this podcast enjoyable is the Trek comparisons, but they keep themselves restrained. It's also both amazing and maddening where some of their predictions go, especially when they get to the right answer for all the wrong reasons...

Miggymack🎶Feels like the first time🎶With the buzz flying around about the new animated series, I decided to seek out Babylon 5 podcasts. Thru the League of non-aligned podcasts, I found this one and it rocks! It takes a strong will to keep with just one episode a week. I started a rewatch 2 weeks ago and I’m already thru season 3. Look forward to listening to the future episodes, because you have barely scratched the surface of how awesome this series gets.

Bros byJust listened to "Passing through Gethsemane" my favorite episodeI've largely enjoyed your podcast, and am excited for more blind predictions. You just reviewed "Passing through Gethsemane", my favorite episode of the series. As I am sure you have noticed by now, there are several episodes that have religious themes of one stripe or another. Now that you have reviewed this episode, I feel no obligation not to spoil the episode. This episode challenged me in a way that few tv shows did. As a young 20-something Christian, watching this episode made me realize the depth of bravery that would be needed to remain in a place where you knew someone would be coming along to kill you. Some people believe that to be a Christian, you must be a kind of weak person. I began to think of missionaries in countries where it is downright dangerous to share a Christian faith. As missionaries in those countries are regularly beaten and sometimes beheaded, nobody I know would dare to call those missionaries pansies. Brother Theo had the kind of faith that is needed in today's world. To stand strong and not back down from doing the right thing, even unto the point of death. But enough waxing poetic. Love the show and keep going on.

MobrochuInteresting cast for a long-time fanI discovered Bablyon 5 during its 2nd season and it immediately became one of my most beloved Sci-Fi shows. I have watched the entire series from start to finish several times over the years on reruns, DVD, and now on iTunes. Jeff and Brent have made re-watching again feel fresh and new. It is so interesting to hear their "first time" take on the show.
-
VoodooSanWhat a fun ride back down B5 memory laneFirst off you two are great and I really enjoy your podcast. I’m actually just started your podcast and I’m already in Season 2. I love how you both try to guess and what will happen. It’s nice to see how you both who are new to the show get more and more into the story. I also love how you search for Trek like related messages. I love Babylon 5 and also being a hardcore Trek fan I didn’t get into it until after it was in syndication. I have a neat little story I’m going to have to email and share with you guys. Keep it up. I’m on this train for the whole ride! I can’t wait till you guys finish. The surprises keep coming.

sbab20Sooner or Later, Everyone Comes to Babylon 5 For The First TimeBabylon 5 debuted when I was 8 years old. Having only experienced with TOS and TNG through reruns at the time, it was the first major sci-fi series I got to experience live during its original run. It holds a special place for me as THE formative sci-fi show in my life. I say this to underscore that, when I decided to pick a podcast to accompany one of my regular rewatches of the show, I didn’t do so lightly. Following Brent and Jeff as they experience B5 for the first time is reigniting my love for the series all over again. Seeing their excitement as the characters, themes, and rhythms of the show’s storytelling click into place brings a fresh perspective that both reinforces what I’ve always loved about the show and challenges things I’ve come to take for granted. I don’t know what your podcast… pleasure threshold is, but if you want to test that look no further!
-
Mg169A lot of funIt’s so much fun to relive the joy of watching Babylon 5 for the first time with these two. Even if you don’t always agree with their assessment of the individual episodes, it’s always fun to play along when they guess what’s going to happen. The hard part is to hold back on spoilers when commenting, but watching them figure out things for themselves makes it all worth it.
-
Linda DouneMust listen for any Babylon 5 fan, New or experiencedPodcasters Brent Allen and Jeff Akin host a series where they watch, review, and predict what will happen next on Babylon 5, just based on what they experience from the show so far. I love the insight from their years of Star Trek as they apply that to this classic show. Predictions are humorous when totally wrong, with sly smiles on the times when they hit the bulls eye. Duane in Virginia
-
TroldannGood showShow is good. Even when the hosts are wrong.

John B’s Pod PeopleGood pod, clean dialogue, Trek backgroundI have a whole pile of B5 DVD’s and been a fan since the ‘90’s. After hearing about this podcast from another B5 pod, I decided to check it out. I’m starting from the first episode of their show so I’m a little behind. Jeff and Brent have interesting observations, even as they bravely slog through season one. They keep it pretty clean (which also makes it unique) so okay to listen to with kids in the room. Let the buzzer go though, guys! I don’t mind the Star Trek references but that thing is distracting.
-
Corman3000Perfect for rewatching with another perspectiveWith the remade high-def B5 episodes available, this podcast is great for rewatching episodes. They have another perspective of the show that reveals subtle plots that may have been missed the first 5 times I’ve watched the series, and it’s hilarious when they try to predict the next episode, sometimes they nail the plot.
-
tired.nateLogic•Heart•Humor=B51TJeff and Brent bring their vast knowledge of the genre and explore the tv series Babylon 5 for the first time. This is a spoiler free podcast and is inviting to both new B5 viewer as well as those who have watched the series 65 times. Using their logic, humor and heart, they break down each episode. Agree or disagree with them, they will give you their honest opinions to the table. Enjoy.
