Podcast puts complicated military history into the political and cultural context. Still absolutely begging for a long term series on ANY major USA/or Colonial-Native America conflict. Not the French and Indian war type stuff.

Thank you, James, as well as to your team and co-hosts and guests, for breaking down these important and interesting nuggets of U.S. history. More often than not episodes lead me to searches for ancillary information which in turn open other new doors. I love this podcast’s style and vibe and because I only learned of it a couple years ago, I enjoy goi g back through the archives. Well done, sir. Looking forward to more.

What happened??? Self serving “humor” from Early. Surprisingly Scott and everyone else puts up with the slow death of this podcast. Used to be informative. Brutal. What are you…Siskel and Ebert?

Great podcast but I need to comment on your description of the quality of the American soldiers at the outbreak of the war. Sure they were ill equipped and poorly trained, as you described, but you left out the most important part, low quality officers. I don't know if either of you ever served but during peacetime the regular army takes on the characteristics of a bloated giant corporation. People advance on who they know or kiss up to instead of skill and leadership qualities.

I just found this and really like it, but the one host speaks too fast and does not enunciate clearly. Frequently, even after listening to bits 2 or 3 times, I still can’t make out what was said. Please slow down and speak clearly. Thank you

Thank you for your show, but specifically the episodes breaking down Band of Brothers. I’ve listened to these episodes twice now and I’m grateful for the time and detail you give to this show. Your podcast is by far the best out there!

Every episode is very well done. It goes into detail without bogging the listener down. It gives facts that the common person can easily digest without making them feel dumb. I’m no historian, but I do like history and learning about topics I didn’t know a lot about and this podcast does that. I hate waiting for new episodes to come out!

Thorough, interesting, well researched and presented topics. Each podcast imparts knowledge that in a way that makes the listener want to keep on listening. I wish my history classes were all like this. Continue to March.

Presents meaningful, important material in an interesting and entertaining format. It is a survey level approach which gives good overview and allows a listener to choose areas to pursue in greater detail as suits their taste. Production quality is good and topics plentiful.

This has become my favorite podcast. Thank you.

The host and his guests do a really good job of providing a fair and balanced expose on the topic of the day. It is also useful as an educational tool for my younger children, who lost the direct connection with those who fought in WW2.

James is prolific and does a great job in presenting these programs. Even his recent podcast on Sioux Indians was well done. Yes, the Indians being nomads had no chance against the Euro settlers. However, breaking our treaties with them (the Cherokees for example) proved what a lowlife politician Jackson was. James and, sometimes, Sean, have one of the best podcasts available.

I skip episodes I am not interested in but really enjoy vast majority of the episodes, topics and guests. I’ve been rewatching Band of Brothers along with the episode reviews and enjoy the additional information about the people and events. Highly recommend!

WW2 movie reviews have been great. Suggestion? Winds of War miniseries is a bit soapy for sure, but great WW2 epic. I think it was the highest rated TV miniseries of all time.

I have listened to many podcasts. Many are good. Your podcast is good, easy to listen to and informative. Sometimes your jokes are a little bit dumb, but you’re so much fun that I keep on listening and will as long as you’re doing it. Thank you.

Just finished the last regular episode of the Key Battles of WW2 series. Another great series, appreciate every episode. Keep up the great work.

Took them all of 11 minutes to say the stupidest thing you can say when talking about movies: “the book was better than the movie”. Pretty much foreshadows that they don’t understand the medium. And it wasn’t a one off, the entire first episode has him saying it. But even more disappointing was how many things they got wrong in describing a movie they just watched. But the absolute worst was when the one host said he was zoning out because he thought a section was too slow. What?!?! I guess he wanted more car crashes. I will try a couple of more episodes, but if it doesn’t get better quick I’ll just delete it.

James has an amazing ability to describe a 10 second concept in two minutes.

Sort of disturbing hand gun advertisements suggesting civil unrest. Very odd and off-putting.

Love the podcast every week. But I was a little disappointed that you did not address the invention of the shipping pallet. This humble technology enabled efficient supply of the Pacific theater. I have heard the opinion that the Navy could not have been adequately supplied without this development. Often overlooked because it is so ubiquitous today.

Listened to the 12 O’Clock High episode. I was definitely excited to hear commentary on this exceptional movie. The duo narrating ought to use a script for starters, dangling sentences, errors of fact, interplay btwn the two narrators thinking they were humorous, the list is endless. Final rating lowered by one narrator because the movie “has no women in it” struck me as odd at best. ( besides…..one woman played a nurse in the hospital scene where Savage visited wounded Airmen and she had lines of dialogue) There were bits and pieces of useful analysis through the presentation and I am inclined to keep listening to future broadcasts. Try being professional though and act like this podcast is not just a random conversation thrown together one evening.

When your review for a movie about D-Day is longer than your entire episode about D-Day, then you’ve got a problem. Still enjoying the podcast and learning lots, but you could go more in-depth if we didn’t have all these episodes about movies

Found by accident but stuck around on purpose. James is doing an incredible job tell our history in just the right way, bite sized to stick. I’ve listened to his Revolution, 1812, Civil War, WW1, and Battles of the Pacific and they’re all wonderful. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to many more episodes and series!

I love this podcast! James is so good at relaying history in a fun and interesting way :) I also love when he brings guests onto his show to help explain further historical events. I also personally love the movie review segment! I’m an imperial war history buff so any new movies or shows I haven’t seen yet are greatly appreciated!

I enjoy this podcast every time a new episode drops. There is a lot of good information delivered in a cool conversational way. Funny and informative. I love the relevant movie reviews sprinkled in between the history episodes. Give this podcast a listen!

The podcasts are great. Stop with the movie reviews. Your history podcasts are at the top of my list every time I see a new one. Movie reviews just get marked as played and I have to wait until the next history one comes out.

The constant chuckles are as annoying as people using “like” in every breath. This is an outstanding podcast though for history buffs though. Keep up the good work!

Can’t wait for a new episode every week!!!

I stumbled upon this podcast by recommendations from another podcast to another podcast etc. Essentially the method that I’ve followed since COVID upped my podcast breaks. Really enjoyed the War of 1812 series and had already decided to make this one of regular podcasts, when I am treated to an extra episode on The Buccaneer. Wow, did this bring back happy memories. My parents took us to the fancy movie theaters in midtown for the “big” movies like The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. I remember The Buccaneer was one such movie. Listening to this podcast was stepping into a Time Machine. Great job! From 1812 we went onto the war with Mexico which was a period I did not know well but really is essential for understanding the Civil War. Another excellent review of our history. And now we are deep into World War II, my parents’ war and one so familiar because of stories that I feel I fought that war. Terrific vignettes of the war’s chapters that also include descriptions and critiques of movies about WWII. (Das Boot and Twelve O’Clock High were particular favorites.) In short…a podcast worth following.

A very general description of the pacific theater. The constant focus on the Marine Corp and only a cursory look at the US army contributions is bizarre. The Army had 21 divisions in the pacific theater whereas the Marine Corp had only 6. To only give a passing reference to the battle to retake the Philippines is a major mistake and flaw in this podcast Also the audio quality is poor.

If you are a history buff like me this show is for you. These short episodes are perfect for getting a ten thousand foot view of wars and other historical events. Thanks for making this show James!!!

I can listen to James Early talk history forever and never grow bored. He does a phenomenal job on his work and everyone interested in military history needs to check this one out.

James Early is great at describing battles. These casts are the right length and the right amount of information nad James is good. I like this series - I also say I like him when he's on History Unplugged.

I’m working my way through it now. The hosts do a great job teaching this newbie to the important stories. It starts with the key battles but takes some time to color the fights with entire episodes on what life as a soldier was and information on important innovations in boats and planes.

I love history, but have never much understood military history or strategy. This podcast has been so informative for me - now I know so much more about these battles and their significance than I ever did before. James and Scott explain everything clearly, so that even I can understand it and appreciate the bravery and sacrifices made by our military personnel in these wars. (And by the way, I was so uninformed when I first started that I really didn’t know who won the Battle of Midway!) I look forward to every episode - thank you so much, James and Scott, for all your research and presentation skills. I can’t wait to keep learning!
