Chasing Heroine: Addiction Recovery Podcast

128

Jeannine was an active drug addict and alcoholic for 15 years - her using led to multiple arrests, homelessness, and the loss of absolutely everything - which she considers to be the best thing that ever happened to her. Sober since January 15, 2015, and now a successful fitness entrepreneur and instructor, content creator and public speaker, she is committed to sharing both her own and her guest’s stories in the hopes that they may help guide and inspire others seeking a similar path of recovery and healing.

    Understanding
I first want to say that I do not have a substance abuse problem. I started listening to this podcast to get an understanding of why my uncle who I adored couldn’t stop doing heroin. Not only do I now understand why I also understand why I couldn’t help save him. This podcast has finally brought me peace about his death. It also gives me tools to be able to discuss drugs abuse with my two young boys. I do suffer from depression and childhood trauma and this podcast has helped me see it could be worse, but it also could get better. It gives me hope. And I am so happy to see that getting help has come a long way! Thanks Jeannine for putting yourself out there for the world to see.

    Favorite podcast!
This review is long overdue. Although I’ve never personally faced addiction, (I have family members who have) I gain so much hearing the stories of what Jeannine and her amazing guests have overcome. My mindset has completely shifted when viewing people who are in active addiction and because of your show I know there is hope for everyone. Thank you so much to you and your guests for sharing your stories.

    Real and raw
Jeannine‘s episodes with her husband are compassionate and honest. And heartbreaking. It’s easy to see what she and Schuyler see in each other.

    Love this podcast
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a little over a year now and i get excited for Thursdays just because it means a new episode. When there’s a break, or when I’ve already listened to the new one, I’ll replay my favorites. I send this to all my friends in recovery and a few of them are now regular listeners. The way it flows without sounding forced makes it feel like you’re just listening in on a conversation. Love love love this podcast! Update: Still listening. Every Thursday! Today is Thursday, I just woke up, and immediately put on the podcast to listen while I make my coffee and all the things to start my day! Thursday is my Friday bc of this Podcast! And I am one of the ones who listens all the way through every intro! The only show I do that for!

    Gives Me So Much Hope
I’m so grateful to have found this podcast and Jeannine. Many of her stories and guest stories are very relatable to the struggles some of my family members have experienced and are still experiencing. I especially love the humor and candor of the “can’t make this up” circumstances Jeannine and her guests so vulnerably share. Hearing these stories of strength and recovery gives me hope that maybe someday I’ll get my sister back. And if I don’t, I’m at least learning more about the disease of addiction and feel less alone. Thank you Jeannine <3

Loved your craziest jail story episode!!
I couldn’t stop listening i literally fell asleep listening to it bc it was nighttime i was so tired and wanted to finish! I love hearing people’s insane stories from using and although some people say this is glamourizing war stories i disagree! it reminds me why i continue to stay clean and what using was TRULY like bc sometimes as the years go on we forget how bad it really was! plus it’s just purely entertaining hearing other people’s stories of craziness and what they went thru! 😂 plus it shows how far you’ve come and what you overcame!!! it shows your strength and resilience. love your 3 mcflurry arrest stories and the beach house one where u were buried in the sand running from “cops on ATVs” 😆

This is by far the BEST pod out there if your looking for sobriety! Jeannine is an amazing example of open mindedness and her willingness, to be vulnerable and share her experience strength and hope, is inspiring on all levels. Like the guests she interviews, she is honest and raw and sharing the gift of sobriety- Thank you!! Never stop sharing this gift with the world!!!

    MY FAVORITE PODCAST
This podcast has been beyond helpful to me on the hard days of my recovery. At 4 1/2 years clean from meth, opiates, alcohol, and everything else, this show makes the hard days easier. Just hearing stories of people who have been where I was make me know that I am truly not alone. Being able to laugh at all the stories that are so relatable to me and hearing y’all laugh at them to is amazing. Being surrounded by normies most days makes me feel like no one quite gets it, then I tune in to hear Jeannine and her guests telling these stories and remember that there is a whole world out there of people like me. I am so grateful to you for making life just a bit easier.

I doesn’t entertain me like it use to
I use to really enjoy this podcast but lately, in my own personal opinion, I feel like it has turned into “Girl Talk”, which is fine I’m not knocking it but it’s just not for me anymore. I will say, there is still hope and inspiration at its core but I just can’t relate

    Love this podcast
Stumbled upon this podcast about a year ago and look forward to Thursdays when new episodes are released. I have been in recovery for 11 years and each week this podcast reminds why I choose to stay sober. Jeannine interviews a variety of guests, discusses their experiences, discussing what their lives were like in active addiction. More importantly, Jeannine gets to the core of what steps her guests took to overcome their addictions, interspersed with her own challenges and presents her listeners with a variety of options to stay clean and sober, reminding me, there is no one way to the top of the mountain. Jeannine’s shows are funny, heartbreaking and real. I feel like I found a new recovery friend even though we have never met. I am grateful for Jeannine, her honesty and her efforts to help those struggling. Thanks Jeannine. I appreciate you 🙏🏻💕

    WOW!
BEST PODCAST EVER!!! Jeanine is so easy to listen to and has the best guests. There was this one girl who went from junkie to attorney (S5 E1--you should listen 😍) and I was like holy wow. Ok maybe that was me but seriously I loved her pod even before I was a guest. Jeanine has such good outlooks/perspectives/etc. It makes her episodes feel so comforting to me. Also follow her on socials because I am obsessed with her hot takes! She's just a bright light in this world!

This is the podcast to listen to in early recovery
I’m 4 months in recovery. This podcast has really helped keep my recovery in the forefront. The guests in the show have built my esteem and taught me how to view who I am in recovery in a positive light. Learning about recovery and the journey of other has given me so much more control over my addiction. Very empowering.

    Weekly dose of hope
I found this podcast for the saddest of reasons. About a week after my son Jasper told me he’d been using heroin he died from a dose of fentanyl—taken mistakenly, most likely. He was three days away from his 19th birthday. Soon after that I happened to see a news doc on the fentanyl epidemic on the other side of the country from us, in San Diego. It included Nate. I followed Nate on IG and that’s how I found this podcast. I deeply appreciate the work Jeannine and Nate are doing. Even though my sweet son is gone before he even had a chance for a recovery, somehow, hearing other people’s recovery stories is healing for me. I am cheering all of you on, wherever you are in your journey. I’ve learned a whole lot about heroin, addiction, and what my son was up against, and I understand things much better. Thank you for everything you both do. Hang in there especially to Nate ❤️#FullziesForever

Chasing Heroine is a reminder that recovery is always possible, no matter how challenging your circumstances. There is so much wisdom infused in every episode, and Jeannine is so fun and approachable, you feel like you’re in conversation with a good friend. Thank you for everything you’ve given to the recovery community!!

This podcast gets me through it
So happy I found this podcast. It’s been so instrumental in helping me work through and maintain my food addiction/binge eating disorder. Jeanine and Nate are fantastic hosts for interviews. Love the discussion so much. It makes me feel so much less alone.

    KEEP ON FIGHTING!!!
I know I’m not alone in this fight when I listen to your podcast. When I walked into a courtroom for the last time in 2021 I promised myself two things; that I was going to fight for my life, and do what I was told. These were two radical things I had never done before. Court lead me to treatment and treatment lead me to an Oxford House and the Narcotic Anonymous program. I have dedicated my life to recovery. So far it’s working. Your shows keep me going on the good days and encourage me and give me hope on the bad days. I recommend your podcast to anyone and everyone. I did try to search for you on TikTok today, but couldn’t find you. If you could post a link somewhere that would be cool. Thank you for everything you do…you’re doing big things!!! Oh and btw…I’m totally okay with you sharing my review and my name. That actually would be super cool. Anyway, signing off…Cheryl, listening in Spokane, Washington.

    Longtime Listener- First Time Rater!
It’s like listening to friends talk. Find myself saying “MmmHmm” aloud often, nodding my head, laughing, with my AirPods in. 🤦‍♀️ Tried to listen to a few other “similar” podcasts, but no one else seems to have this primo blend of humor, motivation, seriousness, real actionable ‘advice’ and tidbits, and just plain telling it like it is(like it really is!). Grateful for Jeannine, Nate, Kim, and all the guests.

    Love this podcast!
This podcast is my favorite. I appreciate how honest Jeannine and Nate are. I’ve never related more! Your podcast keeps me going! It gets through to me a way other recovery stuff doesn’t. I’ve gone back and listened to every episode and look forward to the day a new episodes come out! Thank you for being real and sharing your story!

I hope this review reaches Jeaninne
Jeannine, Congratulations on 8 years. I have almost 15 months and have been able to accomplish things that “on paper”, should have been beyond my reach. Your honest, raw account of what it was like, what happened, and what it’s like now and your experience strength, and hope is the reason your podcast is my favorite. I think I’m your biggest fan. I hope my message reaches you. Keep doing what your doing. Sincerely, Sarah S

    Encouraging and uplifting
I love hearing Jeanine’s story! Although I am not an addict her story is encouraging and uplifting. Knowing where she’s been and where she is now makes me feel like I can overcome the hardships when they come in my life. Our mistakes are redeemable and may even serve a purpose. Listening to her story has also given me more compassion and understanding for those struggling with issues I haven’t experienced myself.

    Excellent
This is an amazing podcast and so needed for people who simply need to “overcome.” Jeannine is a natural storyteller and interviewer. Her cohost isn’t overbearing and chimes in when necessary, so it’s never an awkward listen. All the stories told on this podcast need and deserve to be heard and I’m happy there is a platform for it.

    Active addiction, sobriety and beyond.
This is the only podcast I listened to in my addiction and still am so interested in my recovery as well. I spent many nights awake, nodding off to Jeanine and Nate. I have been sober now for almost 5 months and listened to these guys on Spotify. But I could never leave a review. So I now have moved onto Apple just to make sure they know how much I appreciate them. Keep up the good work. You guys have both inspired me tremendously. I have also done the sober living thing too many times to count. I laugh so hard at those stories and narcan Nate is doing big things too! Thanks guys! Kate TikTok: savagekate916

    Real, Riveting, Down Right Honest
This podcast is unlike any other. Many podcasts about addiction and recovery focus on the what was life like, what happened, and what is life like now. This host, Jeannine Coulter, delves deeper with her guests. She offers insightful reflections of the underlying causes of behaviors within each guests’ stories, validating when needing to and questioning other aspects to gain a better understanding when necessary. She is not afraid to go places that may be embarrassing or uncomfortable because she knows others will resonate. She is real and raw in her reflections because she is an addict in recovery but has a scholarly intellect for understanding the psychology and sociology that influence our addictive behaviors. Simply masterful! You must listen if you haven’t and see for yourself - my words don’t do it justice.

    Real, Relatable, The Best!
As an addict in recovery, I must say when I discovered this podcast about 6months ago it was just what I needed. I’m coming up on 3 years and wanted to be part of something new and refreshing but that still included others just like myself who I could relate to and then I found Jeannine and Chasing Heroine and I fell in love with this podcast. I love the realness, the no judgement passed style of the host and guests as well as the chance to hear other’s experiences, strength and hope on this amazing platform. I hope it continues to grow and touch those who are no stranger to the monster of addiction no matter where they are in their process as well as non-addicts so that they may better understand the disease.

I have been Binge Listening for Days!
As a non-addict but married to an addict who is currently in jail looking at a lot of time as a consequence to his meth use, this podcast is exactly what I needed. My therapist told me to try and find some podcast that would help me understand addiction-and this podcast was on the list and I’m so thankful for it. All the stories, all the knowledge, and guidance for recovery is so helpful and inspiring. This podcast has given me such a new found since of hope and faith that there are ways that we (my husband and I) can, and will, get through this! Thank you To you, Kim, and all the guest that have shared their story. It’s helping more people than you know!

    A fellow recovering addict
I just recently found this podcast and I love it!! Thank you for taking the time to do this and share the message of recovery. I am a recovering heroin addict with just over 18 months clean. I love hearing all the success stories and how far people can go in life after everything they’ve been through. You truly are making a difference and reaching tons of people!

    Recovering addict
As a recovering addict that works 7 days a week I don’t attend na meetings regularly so I supplement this with RECOVERY PODCASTS. Unfortunately there’s not too many recovery podcasts that post weekly ! I’m glad I found this one. I do wish the cohost was more interactive that she asked more questions on emotions and stuff like that but she’s just…. There… lol but overall Jeanine is awesome for making this podcast. IDEA: BRING FELLOW RECOVERING ADDICT FRIENDS ONTO THE PODCAST TO SHARE THEIR STORIES TOO.

    My new favorite podcast
I 100% recommend this podcast to anyone who is in active addiction, a recovering addict, or a friend/family member of an addict/alcoholic. Jeannine is honest and as real as it gets. As someone newly in recovery I've found this podcast to be very helpful and informative. Even though addiction is serious Jeannine doesn't lose her sense of humor while rehashing her past, which is a huge plus.

Amazing podcast and a beautiful example of recovery!
This is hands down the best recovery podcast for heroin addicts! Jeannine is amazing! Her stories always make me feel like I’m not alone on this road from dark addiction to sobriety while I discover what a life in recovery can look like. Every episode reminds me how far I’ve come and how much more progress I can make without glamorizing the dark days. You are a beautiful example of recovery.
