The Women's Running Podcast

Running #36

Running is the one thing that we all like talking about. Every week on the award winning Women’s Running podcast, we talk all things running, women, health and fitness with our own brand of happy, irreverent chat. Esther and Holly talk through their training highs and lows, and all the bits and pieces in-between. Every so often, we invite an expert to join us to help us figure out the confusing worlds of training, recovery, nutrition, health and more. And sometimes we get to talk to an incredible woman from the world of running, from Anna McNuff to Paula Radcliffe, Susie Chan to Nicky Spinks. So why do we do it? Because we realised that most of the running podcasts we listened to were full of blokes waffling on about quads and cadence (and we realised that we can do that perfectly well ourselves, thank you very much). Right here, we talk about all the things that affect us when we step out the door: sexism, hormones, menopause, food, pelvic floors, relationships, mental health, seagull attacks and wild weeing. But. BUT. We will also talk about races, PBs, shoes, training, starting running, enjoying running, finding the fun. And quads and cadence. This is the Women’s Running podcast, and it’s for women who love to run. Get bonus content on Patreon

    Funny, informative and encouraging
I discovered this podcast over a year ago after getting back into running. Esther, Holly and sometimes guests are always interesting. Sometimes I laugh, nod and smile along with their stories and running adventures. My mother is British so even in the USA I appreciate many of their references. I look forward to new episodes and have gleaned tips and ideas from the pod.

    Binge, Run, Repear
I recently discovered the Womens Running pod (and subscribed to the great magazine that goes with it): This is hands-down the best way to get me out the door for a long run: cue up a few episodes and off I go, with warm, funny, encouraging company and wise words that are occasionally even about running itself. So grateful to have Holly and Esther in my ears as I ratchet up my miles and drop into my autumn cadence!

    Love this show!
It is like having a running group chat when you are running on your own. I appreciate the honest talk about women’s health and running. The running talk is solid and it touches on a lot of areas that I don’t hear on other podcast. The hosts are wonderful. Ester has run for a while and brings up so many things that affect seasoned runners. It has been so fun to follow Holly as she develops her running. Both hosts are honest, vulnerable, and extremely interesting. There is also a solid dose of yoga, strength and Great Baking Challenge ♥️♥️♥️ I started listening when I believe Esther was bit by a seagull and ended up, going back to the beginning and listening to every single episode. I must warn you this podcast makes me want to travel to Bath and run around on the canal path and massive hills. It has inspired me to one day enter the London marathon. I appreciate them both for a great podcast. Also, they bringing experts in women’s health and wonderful professional runners to interview. I could go on and on and I have. Check out this podcast..

    Hilarious, Relatable, Inspiring!
This show is the highlight of my week! I don’t even consider myself a runner as I’ve just started and tend to miss half the workouts I plan. But these ladies keep my laughing the whole time, share relatable feelings, / struggles / fears of working out, and inspire me to continue on my running journey! There isn’t a single week that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed! I love The Women’s Running Podcast!

Real people talking running (and lots of other stuff)
I’ve only been running for a year, and have been looking for a good podcast to keep me focused and excited about running. These two are great, they talk about real life and how running fits into their life, which is perfect for a beginning runner like me. I love how honest they are about the challenges they face with their running goals, and their banter is funny and engaging, like hanging out with two good friends.

    Inspirational and informative
So glad I stumbled upon this podcast. I was looking for a fun and informative way to reinvigorate my interest in running without being too intense as some other podcasts are. Holly and Esther are a delight to listen to from the everyday banter to more important issues of womanhood both on and off the running path. Love the inspiration, inclusivity, body positivity and encouragement. You ladies were the catalyst I needed to sign up for my first marathon and so now I love having you on my long runs! Cheers from across the pond! And thanks for the great conversation!

    New favorite running podcast!
So glad this came up under my recommendations! I’m a listener from the U.S and I can’t believe I only just found this podcast. I love the format and the hosts are fantastic. I listen to lots of running podcasts and podcasts in general and this might be my new top podcast out of all of my podcasts! I love the banter and hearing about non running topics as well!

Like hanging out with your best running friends!
This podcast is a mix of running advice for the average runner and chatting about women’s issues. It’s like going out with your best running friend for a coffee or a pint!

    The best podcast!
I cannot recommend this podcast to people enough! Except I don’t ever listen when I’m running…Running is still very hard for me and they make me laugh way to much and it’s hard to laugh while trying to breath when running!

    Not your average running podcast
This is a podcast for REAL people, with real lives and a range of experience, training, ability, etc. It is irreverent, hilarious, warm, and welcoming for everyone and anyone to start running, continue running, or just kibbitz about the realities of running related life. Highly recommend for listening to while you’re out on your run, as it keeps you entertained and like you’re having a chat with dear friends as you go. If you’re looking for a dry podcast with nothing but running stats , kit ads, and elite runners, go somewhere else. This one is famous for having lots of conversation “not about running”, until you realize it is in fact ALL about running. Enjoy, and welcome to the community.

    Great podcast to run to
I could listen to Esther and Holly talk about anything and everything. The thing I love about them is how they are women who run and sometimes don’t run. I have lots of options for podcasts that talk to famous, highly trained, professional runners tell me what they do, but that’s their job. Esther and Holly understand that life gets in the way for the rest of us and their stories are unbelievable and yet totally relatable. I think it’s great that we are women who run but we are not singular in this pursuit. We can also enjoy other things and enjoy talking about other things. If you want straight up coaching advice about hitting all your training runs, listen to another podcast. If you want compassion and laughs about running and sometimes not running, then listen to this one.

    Love this podcast!
I’m not sure how I stumbled across this podcast, but I look forward to each episode! Holly and Esther are so relatable and I really enjoy their discussions. Thank you for a great podcast!

    Love!!
These women are awesome! Just the podcast this American lady has been looking for! Makes me want to go to London and meet them all and go for a good run!

    It’s ok
I really wanted to love this show as I love running but I don’t know.. it’s just not my cup of tea. I am easily distracted and one of the hosts constantly sniffs into the microphone. I wear headphones as I listen and it’s quite a loud and jolting sound. I thought maybe she was getting over a cold in the first few episodes I heard this, but it happens literally in almost every episode. I do like many of the topics that are discussed and I may try to listen still from time to time but with so many other running podcasts out there, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything by passing on this show.

    Love this friendly inspiring show!
Love love love this show. I would listen to it on my runs and then took a break for an injury, and really missed listening! Don’t do that, keep listening even if you’re not running at the moment. It’s inspiring, and friendly to runners of all abilities. Esther and Holly are normal everyday women, with different bodies, paces, journeys, and very down to earth, very relatable. And the women they bring on to interview have incredible stories of amazing feats, but are still friendly and down to earth. It makes you feel like whatever your goal is, you can do it too. I also love that they regularly address what it is like to run as a woman, from how hormonal cycles affect your running to the logistics of period gear. Fabulous show, ladies, big thank you and fandom from California!
