Unless the guest is great on their own, episodes are becoming unbearable
I’ve been a fan since the start but increasingly, this is just a pod for the hosts to tell us who they are. This is mostly shallow, now-predicable commentary, obnoxious humor and “insider” signaling. Put it all together and it’s tough to even get through 10 minutes of an episode anymore. Think of the listener, not your IYKYK image crafting.

Amazing podcast with witty banter & honest humor. I always look forward to a new episode. Chris & Jason are extremely funny, & they always put me on to a bunch of cool stuff.

These guys are the worst. I looked up what they look like and they’re hideously ugly too. Imagine being bald

    Hitting a new gear
TJ and Chris are on the highest comedy gear. So many spit take lols. They make the punishing production schedule look so easy. Not easy. I respect what HLG has grown, and look forward to years and years of jokes about bad rappers and Gen-Z growing up. Bravo boys.

The comments here are almost as funny as the pod. Look, the entire thing is an IYKYK situation. Not for everyone.

It’s ok to be a hypebeast
Hypebeasts who think they’re self aware and ironic about it but actually they’re just hypebeasts. And that’s ok ❤️

    Unlistenable hosts
Listened to the Amen Dunes episode and learned absolutely nothing about the musician due to the “insider” hosts trying to be chummy with him and laughing at one another. At least two people were laughing because sitting through this was brutal. They seemingly think they are more interesting than the guest. Not recommended.

    Let the guest talk
A masterclass in how not to interview. Excited to listen to the Lenderman interview but had to turn it off.

    Awful takes, excellent batter
I hate almost every one of their takes, but love the podcast. The banter and random knowledge is aspirational

The comfort in How Long Gone is that we can enjoy their posh musings and celebrity anecdotes without envy. They are cool but not that cool, smart but not that smart. They are 40 and podcast about Gen Z after all. We can reach them, and even pass them. We have time.

    Great guests
Great guests (especially musicians). DJ guy is funny, foodie guy reminds me of high school jock mentality— might be a better fit for a fancy restaurant pod— very L.A. in priorities. Give them props that they don’t ask the standard interview questions and get the guests to go into new places. Will be listening for the future, quality guests.

    Weird racial undertones
Have listened to a few episodes and don’t understand why they continuously need to point out people’s race when it’s a person or color. It’s ok to just refer to someone as “his gf” instead of “his *Asian* gf”. Weird behavior.

    Rado: Classic
Long time, first time: Jonathan Rado episode is an instant classic. What a fun and DTE (down to earth) bud, ready to riff, lots of laughs.

    Cringey & Distasteful
I listened to the episode with Allison Bornstein. They’re completely rude, offensive, and repulsive in their language and humor. I don’t find them funny at all. Rather than a playful tease, they were more like bullies while picking out details about Allison. I only listened for Allison because she is a reputable and respected stylist. However, the way these guys (basically teenage boys) talk and the context is so repulsive and cringey. I don’t see how they would have any success with this podcast. Definitely for a niche market.

Chris and Jason are the duo I never asked for. I feel too poor to listen sometimes, sure, but the dialogue is hilarious and it’s the adrenaline I need to start my day. They give their unapologetic opinions about the culture and I often ask myself: WWJCD?

Perfecting the Dying Art of Male Friendship
Amusing mix of fashion, culture, fitness, 90’s punk ethos, drugs, and sobriety commentary. Enviable rapport, wit, and keeps my 42 year old finger age-appropriately on the pulse — bang on target market if you were a teen in the 90’s. There’s more depth than meets the eye, but most of the time it’s just clever fun.

    Get pronouns right please
Really liked this podcast but this ep was the second time they purposely misgendered someone. it seems like they're more concerned about not seeming too "woke" than they are about being blatantly transphobic.

Wild pod. Balding hipster and Bojack Horseman ramble on about nothing. It’s like a competition to see who’s the bigger douche.

    Yeah…uh-huh…sure
The hosts, or at least one, truly believe they somewhat live in reality and that’s pretty insane. Just two pedantic white men who non-ironically say things like “Gwenyth Paltrow worked hard her whole life.” Maybe more egregiously, they remark Kaia Gerber is someone both men and women agree is one of the most beautiful women around. Do they know non-white people exist and have opinions outside of the 12 people in entertainment that they know? No. I’m just tired of this washed perspective. Not interesting at all.

    An unironic Hollywood Handbook
I've listened to a few episodes and it's still unclear what level of self-awareness/satire there is to this show.

I’m a gay guy who can rarely stomach podcasts where friends just “talk” and share their opinions about “the culture” - yet I find these dudes hilarious and they’ve somehow captivated me. It’s a feeling similar to when my therapist had to schedule one of our sessions last-minute in the basement of Coming Soon in Chinatown years ago: “this guy gets me”. What’s better, I just moved to LA from NYC so I’m learning a lot from this podcast, like which suburban Whole Foods locations are worth the drive, or who had dinner at Horses last night. It also gives me a sense of nostalgia for running around NYC in my 20s as a Chris to a Jason, of sorts.

    Bow to the OG
I don’t think you were respectful to Michael Hainey, although he was incredibly respectful to you. There’s a lesson there. Also, how do you not know the movie “The King of Comedy”, starring the cultural icon Sandra Bernhard?

    The best synergy
Enjoy Chris and Jason’s dialogue they witty and sophisticated yet still relatable with hints of vulnerability.
