NEVER STRAYS FAR

Hosted by Ned Boulting, David Millar and Pete Kennaugh. The three talk about lots of things, although they never stray far from the core issue, bike racing. Expect guests from the racing world and some proper old school reporting from the road side. Sponsored by CHPT3, Supass and The Road Book.

Best show “sort of” about cycling
I love the hosts and the whole format of the show. Each host brings a boat load of fun to the table and they interact so well together. The discussion podcasts always take me down a rabbit hole of additional fun. Ned’s live travel diaries are great, taking you to fantastic places that are often off the beaten path. This is my primary podcast for grand tour daily diaries. Just enough about the race to make me appreciate the day’s racing, while offering insights into the personalities of the racers and their teams, while also providing appreciation for the towns and countryside around the race route. Ned’s and David’s recent book list was a fantastic episode. Going out to buy a couple already.

    My very favorite pod
I love everything about this pod. The cycling and the not cycling bits. Smart, funny, charming- so many good words to choose from in describing this crew and their mad alchemy.

    Perfect companion for any cyclist
Podcast is def not a detailed race recap in the traditional sense. Thank goodness! There are plenty of those around. Never Strays Far is just what it says. It never strays far from the race, but it provides context. Ned and friends treat listeners as virtual guests in their travels/race coverage. Yes, listeners do learn who won the stage, what jersey competitions look like, and yet, there’s so much more. These boys (it’s all boys!) know cycling, they know the riders and the teams. We, as listeners, get to decompress with Ned and friends after/before their day jobs as World Tour Commentators. Such a refreshing end to my day!

    Full Gas on the Fun!
As an American, casual cyclist married to a Brit, I enjoy the cycling news, and really love it when the boys stray far. Chapeau lads!

    You are the best!
I am a new listener. I love this show on its own, but especially as a companion to the road cycling I watch the on GCN+ app from Oregon, USA. I am not sure how I found you, maybe itunes suggested you because I recently subscribed to Watts Occuring and The Cyclimg Podcast. (this is my favorite show of the three. Fwah. Don’t tell G and Luke.) I’ve listened to all the episodes of NeverStrays Car from this year (2022). Each of you brings something unique and hilarious and lovable and interesting to the show. The TdF stuff especially with Lizzie, kept my days in bed with Covid from being a complete waste. Lifetime subscriber, me. As long as you keep posting, I’ll keep listening. Normally, I can probably find the info by figuring out how to do search terms on the podcast, but if there are any episodes in the archives that go in depth into the subject of doping, the Lance Armstrong era, the the odd deletion of that name from the current media d love to listen back. It smacks a bit of Trumpiam “alternate truth” bending. I don’t condone doping at all, btw, just find it so odd to make my way back to watching cycling, being able to is so great after years without access, that it’s been eerie to have all of those years erased. By the way, I loved your apology to Pete and Canada. I don’t tweet or insta much these days, mostly for mental health reasons, or I would ask that question on social media. I look forward to more appearances of Lizzie and if you decide to talk in depth about women’s cycling at some point, I’ll be stoked. Peace out!

    Can’t get enough
I’m so sad the TDF 2022 is over because everyday my wife and I looked forward to listening to Ned, David, Peter and Lizzie. Your NSF pod is one of the few things my wife and I agree on when it comes to drive time entertainment. We get great pleasure from learning new words and phrases not used by us Americans, like schleuging. We’d schleuge each of you if you came to Ohio. Keep up the good work!

    Best cycling optional podcast
Ned and David (and just by recent proximity Lizzie and Peter) are like the cycling family I’ve always wanted. Good natured, quick witted, dry, wry, and yet ultimately incredibly sincere and humble in their love for this quirky sport. I have worked my way back in time, in between spurts of new recordings, and feel as though I’ve known this crew my whole life. Sometimes the recordings are a bit rough and ready, but they’re always insightful, open, and surprisingly heartfelt. My favorite podcast to date. Thanks for all of the amazing work.

    So. Much. Fun.
Lots of laughs, and, occasionally, they chat about the TdF. 🤣 Highly recommend!!

    Great new discovery!
Great addition to my daily TDF watching-especially enjoying the Car Speaker Guests Cav & Piders! Just discovered the show and wish I’d been listening for the whole season.

Improves with every tour! (and it started off great)

If you like cycling at all, this is not to miss!
Ned and David have the best cycling podcast! It genuinely feels like you are sitting in on your friends discussion of cycling, food, life, the universe, and everything in between. Added 9 July 2022: Never strays car is a brilliant addition to the series. As soon as an episode drops, I stop what I’ve been watching or listening to and put this straight to the top of the list!

    Boys Back Together for TDF2022
Super excited for this year’s group chat (recap of the day) since I don’t get y’all’s ITV in America. Such a great wealth of insider TDF knowledge and soooo funny!! Be sure to follow this Pod!

    Such an enjoyable listen
In many ways this podcast encapsulates how many cycling fans live. It’s something that touches on all points of our lives but often not the only thing. I don’t know many fans of who don’t ride as well.

    Love this podcast!
I love that you are keeping this going with Never Strays Far. Thank you! ———- Original review of Never Strays Farfalle I keep wondering how I can get more Ned and Dave in my life. I’m gonna be super sad when the Giro ends. I listen as soon as it drops. Even if I’m listening to something else at the time. They make me smile and laugh almost the entire time.

How we await Never Strays Fahrrad for a German race or maybe SuperNoVa for a astrophysical view of the Vuelta? Well I suppose the latter idea wouldn’t go anywhere....Thank you!

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ned & David are awesome. They really are a great listen. I highly recommend tuning in. Gives me early 2000s vibes with Ned on preview of the following stage & David in the race. I love to listen at work when it comes out around 3am my time. Great work guys!

    Great Podcast
I really enjoy the banter between David and Ned. I started listening as I was doing a long indoor training ride and found it great. I have been a fan of David and enjoyed both of his books. Keep up the good work.

    The Dream Team
Such a dreamy pod with two lovely lads. Brilliant insight & analysis. They also discuss bike racing.
  • EyeBob
    Really great Pod
The interplay between Ned and David is really entertaining. Nat has a very special gift for being able to recount details of a stage race that any serious fan would find enlightening. The only thing that’s missing is a list of nerds morning playlist of songs that are all apparently from the 80s alternative genre. Gimme the list!
  • brucevelo
    What?
Millar speaks so softly and Boulting so loudly it is difficult to listen to without constantly fiddling with the volume. Content may be good just can’t get through it.

    Roadbook 2019 Review
“Chapeau” Ned. Great review of the racing year. Now if you could just get the “Tour Down Under” going.
