Tai'Shar Manetheren: a Wheel of Time Podcast

5

Sam and Will discuss the Wheel of Time book series and the upcoming television series. We like to keep it light, because if you like fantasy you're probably looking for an escape. We will never talk politics and we try to make content that you can listen to with your niece and nephew. We will often bring up other nerd culture things if we think they're related - like Marvel, GoT, Star Wars, LoTR, Harry Potter, Star Trek etcetera. We will compare WoT to other fantasy book series. If you're starting from the beginning you can also expect less than perfect audio quality for the first several episodes, but we're getting it figured out, so thanks for sticking with us. Great stuff
I thoroughly enjoyed this walk down memory lane.

    Great summary, but…
Awesome summaries of the chapters, but it’s really hard to listen when Sam interrupts as much as he does. AND I just got a spoiler without any warning that it was in it 😑

    The Slog
If you’re going to moan and groan through the entire A Crown of Swords (Sam), then what’s the point of summarizing the book. It was very difficult to listen to, and uninviting to the listeners. If I was just listening to this before I read the book, I would opted out. I imagined they were going to make it enjoyable, instead of nonstop huffing and puffing. I did better off reading it myself. Made it sound worse than it was. Sam spoils a lot. For example, Sam lets us know he was suspicious a specific character during his first read through. However, now he loves the character and boasts about him/her. Dude, that’s a spoiler because now I’m no longer suspicious about the character. He does this a lot. Will only highlights specific characters, he may tell the audience not to forget a specific person. That can be considered spoilers for some. However, that doesn’t bother me much because there are so many characters.

    Great Wheel of Time Companion
Sam and Will have been great companions during my pandemic re-read of the iconic Robert Jordan series. In depth summaries, plot explorations, and entertaining asides - this show was perfect alongside the books. The show also got better as it went along - as some noted, spoiler alerts were missing from the first few episodes - but they noticed and adjusted. The duo is a real joy to listen to with a true understanding and passion for the series. I’ve now surpassed the pod’s summaries, but hope they finish so I can come back and hear the banter even after I’m done. Cheers for all the work guys!

    First Timers Listen Up
These guys do a great job at summarizing chapters and providing insight. I definitely dig what they deliver. My criticism is how casually they allude to characters and their future relevance, call out associations that haven't been connected yet and identify Red Herrings and McGuffins. To some this may be appealing becasuse it may eliminate distractions, but the couple episodes I listened to (LOC Part 3&4) made me think better of continuing on. I'll definintely listen along on my reread, but even outside the spoiler section this podcast is too spoilery for me. Again, I think its super entertaining and the guys are really funny but not IMO not the companion podcast i'm looking for.
