Marine Conservation Happy Hour

26

The Marine Conservation Happy Hour is a podcast that looks at the many different sides of Marine Science and Conservation in an informal setting - a during a pub Happy Hour, chatting casually over a few (or more) drinks. The show is co-hosted by @DrScarlettSmash and @Craken_McCraic. Everyone is a marine scientist who is passionate about the Ocean, marine mammals (whales, seals, dolphins, porpoises, polar bears and more), sharks and other fish, invertebrates (especially squid & octopuses because they are cool), and other marine biology things that live under the sea. Join us as we gossip about, for example, how shows like Game of Thrones are similar to Marine Conservation, the sex lives of sea creatures, hot marine science & conservation topics of the week and learn about the challenges of attaining a marine biology or conservation career.Podcast Owners, Creators, Producers, & Hosts: Dr Scarlett Smash and Dr Craken MacCraic. You can support the show at: www.patreon.com/marineconservation(c) ECM Parsons and Ashley Scarlett

    Omg so good
Ok I love this! I recommend it for people who like the ocean and also people who like to listen to other people being hilarious! But when I listened to the episode about if you made a movie about ocean problems I kinda wish there were sea turtles. Such a good podcast! Keep up the good work! šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ‹šŸ‹šŸ‹šŸ‹

    5 Star! Future Episode Idea??
LOVE this podcast! This really helps me stay in tune with my passion of marine biology despite being a few hours from the ocean. Wondering if it would be possible to shed some light on sustainable, eco friendly ideas for people who want to travel/scuba/explore marine biology while doing so with a conservation cautious mind? I want to plan a few trips next year, but donā€™t want to be that ignorant tourist who says she loves marine biology but is harming it in the process of connecting with her passion. Any suggestions or tips for traveling would be greatly appreciated!

    Mixed bag
Overall, this is a decent podcast. Unfortunately there is political bias and animal rights extremist messaging, whether blatant or undertones, in many episodes. I would love to hear more balanced discussions in episodes that brashly trash the work of zoos and aquariums. And just so the ā€œscientistsā€ on the show are aware- the Baltimore Aquariumā€™s proposed seaside sanctuary is no different than the other coastal sea pen style aquariums in the Florida Keys and Caribbean islands. Also, the Epcot Living Seas does have docents, biologists and trainers that interact with guests throughout the day. Just because the small sample size of your time there didnā€™t include that doesnā€™t mean it can be excluded in a message to the public as being part of the programming. Thatā€™s just bad science- making an assumption to push an extremist agenda. Itā€™s a pity, because I do enjoy much of the content on the podcast- I just canā€™t recommend it when theyā€™re spreading misinformation to the general public. Thank you for the episodes on biodiversity, climate change, etc.

    YAS!
Very entertaining and fun. I am not a scientist but I love the environment and I want to know what is going on, what I can do to help, and Andrew, Smash and Cracken bring so much information to the table. Keep it up guys!

    This podcast is for everyone!
Iā€™ve been listening to this podcast for a while now and the group of scientists have great conversation and each come with such an interesting perspective. I come from a non science background and let me say that this podcast is not just for scientists. Iā€™m an ocean lover and learn so much every episode (including good beer recommendations). I would recommend this podcast to anyone looking to learn more about the ocean from a great group of scientists!

Love it and an episode suggestion
Love this podcast! Listen to it at work all week. I have a suggestion for an episode idea. Iā€™d love to hear practically the steps youā€™ve taken to reduce your carbon impact, plastic impact, and overall environmental impact. Products, lifestyle choices, actions, whatever it may be! Give us some ideas more than just carry a stainless steel straw :)

    Good topics, poor audio
The background track you use is too loud and it sometimes drowns out the speakers, especially Andrew who sometimes mumbles or trails away...otherwise I really enjoy the topics you discuss and the different perspectives. Would like more guest speakers!

Audio is bad, but great pod cast.
This podcast has great subjects they discuss & content is great. Just the audio is horrible. I think itā€™s always record live @ a bar or something. I miss a lot of whatā€™s being said bc of that noise. If the audio quality gets better I will fully support this podcast. Thereā€™s not much great podcast about marine biology. But if it doesnā€™t improve I will have to tap out šŸ˜¢.

    Ringing audio
I like the podcast BUT thereā€™s some weird ringing in the audio most of the time?! Not sure if itā€™s because Iā€™m using headphones? I havenā€™t had the issue with other podcasts. If you could investigate, thatā€™d be great.

    Conservation plus beer = Gold
I love this stuff! Andrew is a genius and a great voice for the ocean. Mix that with good friends and a few drinks and Iā€™m all in. Thanks for making this show. -Clay from Fish Nerds.

Rum, science & saving the oceans.
Hilarious and informative. A bunch of marine conservation scientists talk about the latest news in marine conservation while drinking vast quantities of alcohol. Dolphins and daiquiris, turtles and tequila, margaritas and manatees, kegs and krakens. Good for any wildlife enthusiast, whale hugger, or even students or those in marine conservation (or who want to be).
