Six-BitsMore animal episodes?I love the animal episodes and am listening through the backlog, but lately it’s only been long interviews. Would love to see more animal episodes.
-
animallover😁😁🐔🐛Amazing or used to beI loved the podcast when you talked about animals every episode but now it’s really boring and not something that I personally would want to listen to. Whoever reads this Jesus loves you 🙏❤️🥳✝️🥰

HgugkkmGreat but to much on the adult sideI think it’s a really great podcast to listen to don’t have anything to do but the episodes are getting more of the adult side of things so I think you could put maybe some more kid appropriate episodes on there you would be appreciated but still great podcast

suckit11111Could be greatI have listened to ten or so episodes. 2 stars since it’s decent content if you can stomach the host pushing his propaganda and political agenda.

Meeper Peeper1Huge fanI was looking for a podcast about animals and the first thing I found was your podcast. It was the perfect podcast as it’s explained every fact about many animals. I’m pretty sure I’ve listened to every episode on Spotify at least twice.
-
capyfan3000Amazing podcastI would absolutely love it if you made an episode on the capybara!!

😛💝One suggestionHi I’m 10 years old my name is Anabelle and I really like this podcast so much. But, I do have one suggestion for if you don’t already have it. I know this sounds a bit silly… but I’m was thinking you could maybe add like a kind of pig to this podcast? You don’t have to but I recommend it… if you search up facts about pigs you may just find out that their nothing what you thought they were like!! Thanks!

Hedgey15Best podcast ever!Hi, I’m Rylee and I am 13 years old and love your podcast so much. All your facts are amazing and interesting. I was wondering if you could do a hedgehog podcast? Thanks!
-
SnoobinsFavorite podcast everHi I’m Cillian and I’m 7 years old and live in Arlington, VA. I started listening to your show a month ago and can’t stop. I’ve learned a lot. I want to make a request, could you do an episode about mega mouth sharks? Thanks!
-
Dayne RichardMy favorite time wasterI listen to your podcast while I’m working, and it’s something I always look forward to every time an episode releases. I’m a huge fan of the shift to interviews on evolutionary and genetic behavior on the human species. However I would like to see an episode on the Dumbo Octopus!

The "Customer".Brilliant! One of the best science podcasts we’ve ever experienced! Always succinct and interesting!

FishLover2023I love this podcastHi Macken! I absolutely love this podcast! I love animals and I always look forward to when new episodes come out. I was very excited to find out that you have done an episode about goldfish. I have 6 goldfish and that episode taught me more about goldfish than I thought I ever knew. Could you do an episode on largemouth bass, koi, or another freshwater fish. Or maybe an Arctic wolf. Thanks, Charlie, Pocatello, Idaho P.S. I just finished listening to your American alligator vs Komodo dragon and an American alligator could screw a Komodo dragon.
-
WaterluveraebYour podcast is my new addictionI heard about your podcast from a random stranger and now I am trying to spread the word myself. I am an avid birder and just love the California Condor, Artic Tern and Pigeon episodes. The pigeon is the most underappreciated bird and your episode changed my view of them forever. I hope you continue to put out such informative and entertaining content for years to come. I want to request episodes about the Chachalaca, the Brown Creeper, the Artic Fox, the Kirtland’s Warbler, the Sea Otter, the Lynx and the Secretary bird.
-
VritisethGratefulMacken, you are so much more helpful to us than you know. I personally always find myself listening to your podcasts when I’m especially anxious because I find something so calming about your voice and something so fascinating about your content. So I just want to say thank you, with everything you’re doing in your life- taking time out to make these informational podcasts is just amazing. Keep it up and good luck with everything the future holds!

darenwalkerInteresting but needs to be fact checked a littleWhile the podcast is well written and interesting. Not all the facts portrayed are true such as white-tailed deer having great eye sight to go along with their unbelievable sense of smell. White-tailed deer are blind by human standards and pick up movement more than anything else. 20/100 human vision is a common reference (deer can a see as-well as a human can see at 100yards but at 20). Deer do have amazing night time vision but the distinction has to be made by a source people are looking to for facts. This vision (movement and night time) accompanied with that great sense of smell helps them to so elusive to predators. I did appreciate learning about Bambi and the history of the story though.

yeshaya rBest animal podcastI love how the show is brainy but also casual and entertaining. You have a great voice for podcasting. I'm always looking out for when you're going to start the next sentence with your refrain "THIS ANIMAL". It's obvious that you put in extra effort to make sure that your podcast is not just great but top-notch. I'd like to see an episode on the lanternfly that has recently invaded my area of the globe. Thank you.

anne kerriganEvery episode is fascinating and teaches me something!Love this podcast. Very interesting topics that are engaging and enlightening. Thank you so much for making such a great show

Kdj1996One of the highlights of my dayI started listening to this podcast to learn a bit more about the birds that I see around me everyday in New Jersey, starting with the Great Blue Heron. It quickly became a staple of my morning and afternoon commutes. I listen every chance I get, and love relaying my new knowledge to my girlfriend, coworkers, or anyone else who may share my excitement for animals! Macken does an incredible job researching each episode and presenting the information in a way that is entertaining, thought-provoking, and informative. Thank you for everything you do! I would love an episode on Groundhogs, Bald Eagles, or the Pileated Woodpecker!
-
E I KThank youI’ve been listening to your podcast for a long time now and every time I finish an episode I know that I’ve learned something new. Thank you for making this wonderful podcast. Can you do an episode on the Vinegaroon? I think it’s more common name might be the whip scorpion.
-
Aio1972Thank you for the inspirationI love the poetic way in which you present your podcasts. I have been vegetarian for years and will never be truly vegan as I have my own well looked after chickens laying eggs at home. I have taken another step on my journey though and am enjoying an cup of tea this morning with almond milk. Thanks for the nudge.

OchewbacA GemNothing fancy here, which is just my podcast style. Straight information from a passionate host who doesn’t sell out to advertisers. This gets a rare subscribe from me. Thanks, Macken!

ART3RCADEOne of the greatest podcasts to ever existAbsolutely love this podcast, love the host, Macken, great for sleep or anything else! I was looking for a podcast for a long time to learn some more about animals, but no luck for a long time. Until I found species. Everything I wanted in an animal podcast is this and more. I love how macken gets to the point instead of talking too much and putting ads and sponsors like other imperfect podcasters out there. If your reading this macken I love your podcast and everything about it. Thank you!

BlahoskyBird26Highest of recommendationsThis podcast is quite the gem. I’ve been listening to Species since the beginning of August and have breezed through nearly all of the episodes. Thanks to Macken, I can completely decompress on my drives home from work listening to all of his phenomenal animal fun facts. I am absolutely thrilled that I stumbled upon this podcast and cannot wait to hear more. If at all possible, I would love to listen to an episode on the crested caracara. Thank you, Macken, and keep up the amazing work! -Alexandra Blahosky

Brody_the_BroSpecies: A must listen to anyone and everyoneWhen I think of wildlife educational entertainment, my mind goes to some of the most famous examples such as Planet Earth. However, when I have to state my favorite or best, I always say Species. This podcast has many valuable qualities: the extensive research, the passion of the host, the wide variety of animals (which I personally love because so many shows or podcasts focus on popular/charismatic animals). I believe the best quality of the show is the host’s storytelling. To state facts about an animal is easy. Anyone could do that, but to expertly weave facts with folklore, or history, or humor, or whatever, is unique to this podcast. The storytelling used in this podcast and passion of the host can make anyone fall in love with any animal. Conservation is often a common theme and topic, and when combined with the storytelling, the podcast has the capacity to make anyone an ardent conservationist. The Sturgeon episode, especially the conclusion, still give me goosebumps to this day. While I might not agree with some of the host’s points or beliefs, I still have the utmost respect and admiration for this show and the host for inspiring so many people to learn about wildlife. This is why Species has my highest recommendation.
-
lucas roodAmazing PodcastThis podcast has become a go to for road trips or a bike ride to school. I have learnt so much about so many animals thanks to you. Thank you for continuously putting out fascinating animals that I appreciate more and more.

ookeyspookeyWildlife lovers unite! As one who missed their opportunity to pursue their love and respect for wildlife this Macken delivers a nice way to get a quick fix on all things wild. Haven’t made through the entire library of the podcast but if you haven’t yet would love to hear about the Shoebill Stork (Balaeniceps rex). Macken take care of yourself. -Marcus

Cadence grenBy Cadence grenHi I love your videos they help me fall asleep at night and I listen to them on the bus. And if you have not done a video in tadpoles I think they are a cool animal and I would like to learn more about them🙂🙂
-
senior passengerGreat Animal PodcastThis is a wonderful fact filled podcast that I have just discovered. I have been trying to catch up on all the podcasts I have missed. I hope for a future podcast about my favorite little acrobat - the Eastern grey squirrel.
-
manvanjThe best family podcastMy 10 year old son and I listen every week and you have brought so much joy during this whole horrible time. This podcast is amazing in that it is educational and child appropriate but you never speak down to your audience. This allows all of us to enjoy it - adults and kids of all ages. We have learned so much about animals, the environment, and social sciences listening to you. We will be thinking about you and wish you well.
-
Victor VanhornMy Favorite PodcastThank you Macken (pardon me if it is spelled incorrectly) for bringing me such joy when listening to this podcast, it gives me my weekly dose of animal trivia and interesting facts, exposing me to a lot of animals that I never expected to be so interesting. You shed a whole new light on animals, and it could easily brighten anybody’s day. I especially appreciated the coverage you did for New Zealand’s Kea and Kakapo, my two favorite birds, and the always underrated Red Panda. My recommendation for an animal would have to be the Salmon Shark, a relative of the Great White himself, a shark that produces its own heat to survive temperatures as low as 36 degrees Fahrenheit. They use their retia mirabilia (counter-current heat exchangers) to do so. Thank you again, and I hope you do this for years to come.
-
Frank PetroneNothing beats listening to Species podcast while workingYo Macken, My name is Frank, I’m 18 years old and from New Jersey. I work at Diggerland USA and the only thing that’s been getting me through the long and hot summer days is sneaking in one of my earbuds and binging Species from episode one. My favorite so far is the Orca episode and I’ve recommended it countless times to family and friends. Also I’d love to see an episode on King Cobras as they’re extremely intelligent snakes and would make for a great pod. Thanks a lot man, Keep up the great content!

Skinny KangarooAwesomeThis an awesome podcast both informative but also with stories the bring to life the animals talked about. Truly excellent but for one tiny burp. Satie’s Gnossienne No. 5 is a delightfully light piece of music which brings to mind a quite morning or early afternoon in spring. But when talking about natures serial killer ( yes Winny the Poo had a serial killer as a friend) or the terrifying creature that has inspired, rightly, every giant reptile horror movie ever made, this lovely soothing music music is turned into a macabre sound more fitting to terrifying Halloween nightmares. Maybe an assortment of music depending on the subject matter would work better. Still well worth subscribing. Don’t let my comments scare you away. Believe me a Saltwater Croc needs no help in the scary department.
-
too da louCaused kids to cry.I really loved this podcast and would let my kids listen while I would cook or something. I am unsubscribing. My kids were listening and I was in the other room. My three and five year old came running saying he called grandpa a liar. Grandpa is a farmer and he was calling farmers liars for saying they love their animals. You can push your agenda in another family. I'm out.

naomi.bolognaGreat podcast for anyoneSpecies is great execution on a simple premise. I have listened to 50+ episodes and learned so much about our world. I used to wish Pokémon were real (I still do). Species makes me return to that childlike wonder - animals are just real life Pokémon. Macken does an excellent job keeping episodes fresh, making complex concepts understandable, and relating animal studies to important musings about our world. I also enjoy the nuances in Macken’s descriptions like using they/them pronouns for animals. I found this podcast by chance and now listen constantly. Trying to get my mom into it. Can you give her a shoutout and also think about doing an episode on the Barton Creek Salamander? Thanks for all your hard work, it’s excellent!
