    Payne Lindsay is a conman
    Enough said
  • CourtneyS9
    Soooo repetitive
“What the Body Reveals” from Season 4 felt incredibly repetitive to the point of being distracting, which undermined what could have been an otherwise compelling episode. The core content could have easily been condensed into five minutes, but instead, the same points were repeated nearly verbatim multiple times. Unfortunately, this seems to be a broader issue with the season overall, which has felt padded and unnecessarily drawn out.

    Love it
The effort gone into this is incredible. Can’t wait to hear more from the Midnight Sun season.

Why so much repeating and AI voice over
AI voice over is boring and makes it harder to listen to. I enjoyed the podcast before Payne is a good story teller. There has been so much repetition at this point and that combined with AI doesn’t make me want to listen to

    Fantastic
Keep it up Payne! Been listening from Season 1 and it’s only gotten better! Season 4 is raw storytelling and it really feels like we are right there with you.

Sometimes brilliant, sometimes not so much
Disappointed to wait a full week & just get an unedited recording of one interview. I’m interested to hear new episodes of this often exceptional podcast, but the latest episode felt like a joke. Disappointing.

    Great but…
Really love the podcast and the work you put in. But I find the lady singing a bit weird, or maybe it’s too much? Also there seems to be more suspense music added in the last 2 seasons…it’s over the top. I don’t want to feel like I’m listening to a horror movie, the details are already gruesome or frightening. So let’s tone that down please. And I agree with the repeating it feels like you’re trying to fill spaces just to reach the podcast length. A q&a at the end of each episode would be a better filler.

    Fantastic podcast
I thoroughly recommend listening to all seasons , particularly 3 and 4. I’ve binged all seasons over the last couple of weeks. The stories are told so well, the interviews with families and all persons involved are done so with care and sensitivity. You will not be disappointed, a fantastic listen.

    Repetition
I’ve been listening to U&V for 3 years. I always look forward to the episodes. However, In The Midnight Sun Chapter 2 has been a constant regurgitation of information we already know. I’m listening to episode 12 right now and it feels no different to the previous episode. I would rather episodes were released when information was new and exciting, rather than repeating information from previous episodes. I really do love this podcast but it’s became so slow and boring. I’m sorry guys.
  • sdijfn
    Repeating what we’ve just heard….
Again and again and again… an interviewee says something and Payne repeats it on the narration s-l-o-w-l-y and with more words. Does my head in.

    Lost in Crime
I used to stay up to watch true crime tv and now I can’t wait to go to bed and listen to this podcast and all the series. It’s so well done and opens my eyes to how victims are selected to get justice and who the police let slip through the cracks. My adv is take care in small towns and getting socially involved with law enforcement.

Forget the negative reviews and listen
UK listener here. I can’t understand the negative reviews, the podcast is great. These reviewers forget that it’s real people who are missing or dead at the centre of these investigations, with distressed family members and loved ones left behind and who sometimes feature in the podcast itself. Please be respectful because one day, something like this could happen to you or someone close to you. Keep up the good work Payne!
  • Kimmy659
    Downward spiral
This show started off showcasing the victims and tried to show a new angle that perhaps wasn’t investigated by law enforcement. It made me as a listener feel like there were things I could do to help. However as the show progresses it turned into … entertainment. I quit listening half way through this last season because it just turned into a regurgitation of info they’ve already discussed and less factual as they were just talking about personal feelings towards the case. It really takes away from the victim and their families.

    Mediocre
    It is mediocre at best
  • Carhart7
Gets worse as it goes on
Payne has built a podcasting career off the first season of U&V, by wrongly taking a lot of credit for the eventual conclusion of Tara Grinstead’s case. Each season since then has become increasingly more pretentious and theatrical, with hour upon hour of drawn-out filler and repetition. You have to admire his nous in tapping into and exploiting a very particular podcast audience lacking in intelligence and critical thinking skills. Not for me though.

    Why episode 7?!
We done this already! Come on guys.. you make us loyal day one listeners have to wait longer☹️as we can’t pay for subscription😫 Podcasting is all some people have as cost of living gone up rapidly in UK! Hope you can throw in a double episode for your poor fans🙏😋 Ps Be bloody careful ! Your gona give me a heart attack! Xxxx love to you and you team❤️

    Unclear Sound Quality
There is some good content in this podcast and the stories are interesting. But listening to endless recorded phone calls is really frustrating! It's so hard to hear what they say and it's rarely clarified. Also they have people start talking and you just have to guess which character is speaking. I do think the host/producers could do a bit of a better job at making the sound quality and content clearer.
  • Cheezits87
Good but ‘gotcha’ subscription is bad faith.
Listening to series 4 and found the journalism, the investigation and series overall to be compelling. I understand podcasts need to make money, but the ‘gotcha’ subscription only lock on episode 6 is bad faith. I can’t afford to give Tenderfoot $4 / month at right now, so all it’s done is prevented me from finishing the series.

Another great investigation, sadly more intrusive tubular bells and screeching sounds spoiling the narration and witness reports.
  • anniel54
    Series Three
This is a disturbing story Ashley is missing, law organisation is chaotic as are the people with whom Ashley associated. Many of the people being interviewed sound egotistical and not in the least interested in helping find Ashley only blowing their own trumpets Until someone actually has the guts to step up and admit the the truth this case will be unsolved Such a shame

    Re: Ashley Loring Heavy Runner
Payne Lindsey is excellent. UK listener.
  • NickNameNanoo
    Is this a joke?
The bar is set so low and the true crime market is so saturated that an amateur filmmaker investigating a disappearance by interviewing his grandmother with no relation to the case “to see if she knows anything” gets a podcast? Come on.
  • DICKO_80
    Love Payne
    Amazing podcaster. The best.
  • LigellaNawson
    Season Three…
Is anyone else a bit grossed out and sceptical about this Sam’s rapturous account of their souls intertwining and her getting pregnant… he’s old and gnarly right? She’s young and hot. How likely is this? Also he really goes in on how romantic it was?!???

    ❤️
Brilliant podcast and absolutely love Payne. Could listen to him all day. UK Listener
  • Regs_legend
    Investigation at its best.
Very well investigated and told story of the sad disappearance of Tara Grinstead. The intense interviews and narrative is amazingly told.
  • Margrlafarge
    Excellent Storytelling
The atmospheric description of this story really places you in the moment. I am entirely intrigued and looking forward to a conclusion on this sad tale.

    Remove the spoiler!
I really enjoyed this podcast and recommended it to friends, however the image on the front screen is a bit of a spoiler, combined with the fact that you have to scroll past the latest episodes to find Season 1 to start the story from the beginning. It’s an amazing story so it would be good to not giveaway the ending.
  • Heyeyya
    Awful Host
I’ve had to give up entirely after listening to episode 19. What a disgusting way to speak to that poor woman. I realise the host is relatively inexperienced (as evidenced by the rest of this rambling series), but this is no excuse for what is nothing short of bullying. He should feel ashamed of himself.

Recommend by @true crimecast and I love it
My fav true crime has Podcast recommended Payne and the team. Really great first series. I’m now half way through series 2. Can’t wait to see what’s next! Keep going guys.

    Incredible
Have revisited Up & Vanished recently and forgot how amazing it is. Absolutely hooked AGAIN. I am actually glad I didn’t listen to it in real time so I don’t have to wait a week or so for the next episode! Fantastic story telling, and fab work on the cold cases that grip us. Have you ever thought about doing a UK case? Suzy Lamplugh or Claudia Lawrence spring to mind. It also helps that Payne is very easy on the eye 😂 excellent work and can’t wait for subsequent seasons.

    Season 3
One of the most heartbreaking podcasts I’ve heard. It is a tough, but absolutely necessary listen. It is vital to hear the stories of missing and murdered indigenous women. It is necessary to know of the systemic racism, bias and prejudice faced by ethnic minority communities, and their fight for justice. Thank you for making this necessary podcast.

    Hooked
Came across this podcast today, already on the 2nd episode already. Will finish first season tonight, will be recommending to all my fellow podcast family. Best podcast ever

Excellent podcast! Payne goes out of his way to tell the story and to get her facts and evidence. Keep up the good work

5 stars series 1 but series 2 fizzled out
Series 1 is up there with “Serial” as one of my all time favourite true crime podcasts and the efforts and empathy that Payne and his team put into the case demonstrated a genuine concern for both those involved and the subject matter. While they brought the same qualities to season 2, and I appreciate that it was going to be near on impossible to replicate the type of conclusions reached in series 1, I felt series 2 fizzled out disappointingly. There were so many loose ends left hanging in the air or unexplained. It also seems that the team haven’t returned to the case, or at least not made any subsequent public updates. Consequently UAV gets 4 instead of 5 stars from me Based on the way series 2 fizzled out I haven’t tried season 3.
  • Kayleigh0508
    Great podcast, some sound issues.
Really enjoy this podcast but I struggle to listen to the more recent episodes as a lot of the interviews take place over phone and the quality isn’t great. I know this can’t be helped most of the time but I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of important info.
  • pugh7777
    Advert over kill
Full of adverts every 10-13 mins. Not good when you pay a premium on Spotify not to listen to ads an get a podcast full of them. Would be 0 stars if the option was there

    Top tier
I binge-listened to season one of Up & Vanished whilst on holiday a couple of years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Payne is a brilliant a thorough investigator and host. The podcast will grip you all the way through and leave you wanting more at the end of each episode. Absolutely fantastic pod!

    Podcast
This is the most awesome podcast. Sensitively researched and it gives you an insight to how missing people cases are handled so differently. Listening to this podcast in Liverpool, UK and can see how different the police work. Love the podcast and keep up the good work.

    Season 1 & 2 BRILLIANT! Season 3 BORING
Totally loved the first two seasons. Well investigated & beautifully put together. I’m a true crime podcast addict & these were up there with the best but what happened to season 3?? Too many adverts, often repetitive with no real substance to be remotely interesting. To be honest I got bored & just stopped listening. Disappointed!

    Starting to dip
Before i start I'd like to echo another review an implore Lindsey to stop describing coincidences as 'IRONIC'. It's becoming much more common place especially in the United States. I understand language evolves, BUT irony is a particularly interesting and almost paradoxical concept in the situational form. My mum does it as well and it pisses me off lol. The first season was gripping due to the multifascated nature of the case and the interesting seemingly idyllic small Bible Belt town, which as a Brit is the part of the States i find most interesting. I'm not qualifed to comment on techincal aspects, so I'm critiquing entertainment (choice of case and avenues explored). A lot of content and theories relating to Tara's connections to law enforcement drew me in pretty close and even though they turned out to be red herrings, it was worth it for the ride + those avenues (espeicially with diminishing trust in law enforcement) needed to be explored. Second season was rather good as well. Another interesting setting containing a community far removed from season 1, which I liked. He's not afriad to try something new! The interviews with the man who from the looks of it is the prime suspect, Catfish, were riveting and jsut gives you a snapshot of how incredibly narcissistic people with zero self awareness behave. season 3 has ended up encompassing the endemic nature of missing native women in the US and Canada. There's no guaratee of outcome or positive steps forward with this sort of format, which is what makes it such a compelling medium, but I feel the structure of season 3 shows theyre clutching at straws a bit. We're led to believe Ashley vanished into thin air, then in ep 8/9 we're told it's most likely her blood stained clothes being tested which predates the show even airing. I thought the whole magic of this podcast and others like it is that info isnt witheld for dramatic effect and we're on the same page as everyone else. Payne keeps returning to the same interviewees, such as Sam and not much is being added to help clear up what happened to Ashley. I've waffled a bit as i'm overtired and autocorrect isnt working on iTunes, so forgive my awful punctuation. Still giving it 5 stars as it's one of my fav tv/film/book/podcast/general entertainment thing along with David Ridgen on CBC podcasts
  • TuckDB1
    Good stories but…..
Repeats itself a lot and too many adverts

    Seriously Good
Having been enthralled by Up & Vanished’s previous seasons, I was eager to hear this season three. It doesn’t disappoint, the standard of this podcast is as high & gripping as ever. Though I can’t expect the legendary cowboy cookies to be sent to the UK, Payne’s work & his team’s should be promoted & listened to by as many as possible so that the justice Payne seeks might be found & Ashley’s sister & family find what peace is possible for them. Payne seems to have integrity as well as copious amounts of talent & deserves all the plaudits from fellow listeners he’s received, as this podcast serves as an example of great people doing great work.

You know when it’s made by Payne Lindsey it’s going to be good, thank you for continuing to tell the stories of missing and murdered, you help achieve the justice these people need.

    Love it.
Listened to every episode of first 2 seasons and now looking forward every week to being up to date and in the present. Been meaning to review for a while but cowboy cookies would be a bonus!!!! Keep on grinding Payne - Amazing what you do

The podcast that got me into podcasts
I still struggle to find any podcast as good as season 1 of Up and Vanished and continuously recommend it to people who haven’t listened to it yet! The other seasons are also great and worth listening to- interesting cases, sympathetic investigation from Payne, and the sense that the podcast will make a positive impact on the investigations. Go and download and enjoy.
