Nkay666Very helpful and interestingPlease do an episode on using psychedelic therapy on people with mental illness and personality disorders, as the psychedelic resurgence is in full swing, and it’s important to know who SHOULD NOT take these chemicals/Entheogens.

Frederic PierrePsych ReviewThis podcast was truly interesting as Dr. Boore-Clor goes into depth about the sub specialty of geriatric psychiatry. This podcast is catered for students and trainees. People who also find these things interesting and just enjoy would find this video very entertaining as well. Dr.Boore is very clear about the topics covered in this podcast and gives stories about her different patients to further explain and give a better understanding to them. The information presented is extremely reliable as it’s covered by an official Dr of the respected science at hand. The information is up to date and credible as it was tested and analyzed with real people and data. One of the five things I learned is that Dr.Boore speaks on they would use medicine usually treated for children and find that it works really well on older people with completely different diseases or other mental illnesses. She says also says that by 2030 about 20% of the population will be over 60. She says that she didn’t know a man had dementia or depression. The way to find the difference is asking a lot of questions. A person with dementia will actually try to answer these questions while a person with depression won’t answer not because they can’t but they seem like it’s too much work. Start love, go slow, and don’t stop. People who are older have different metabolisms and different neuron load. Starting doses for patients is really important since you would have to generally give a smaller dose to older people since they can’t take as much as younger people. You don’t have to be afraid of giving medication to older people just the amount given. They use test that’ll be able to open up a persons brain and find what’s wrong with them to more thoroughly go about treating a patient. The podcast is really interesting since it speaks hard on how to take care of an older person in the geriatric world. “Geriatric Depression : A Clinical Guide” this book explains “WHY” depression can be challenging to treat in older adults and describes the most effective interventions. I chose this because listening to podcast they really speak on everything that they try to do for their patients, it’s not just sending your grandparents to a nursing home where they rot but they actually try to help them with their new or old mental illnesses. “Interventions to reduce ageism against older adults : A systematic review and meta analysis”, people would think that just because someone’s old they won’t be able to perform certain tasks and there’s stereotypes that you can go into about it. But this is goes into different things they use to reduce the thought of that and shows analysis and data on that as well. “Behavior management in caring for patients with Alzheimer’s disease”, this gives real life scenarios of patients with this disease and demonstrates practical ways of dealing with difficult behaviors such as wandering, angry outbursts, and delusions. As Dr.Boore was saying it isn’t necessarily easy dealing with patients that have these diseases and this shows how difficult it is to do that but also ways to deal with it. “Secrets to Centenarians”, centenarians is what they call successful aging people who’s lived well passed 100 years of age. Researchers go in and explain their longevity and their studies show that everyone has the potential to do so depending on their conditions. This ties into the older people topic that Dr.Boore talks about throughout the podcast. “Handbook of geriatric assessment”, this gives a contemporary approach with patient and family centered care. To give the latest information on geriatric assessments for older adults.

mafrolichGeriatric PsychologyThis podcast is a very helpful for psychology students looking to move into geriatric psychology and wanting a basic introduction into that field. The blend of fun banter, interesting and personal interviews, and material makes for a podcast that is both interesting to listen to and very informative. The interviews and flow of the podcast made it very clear and easy to follow and the interviews, being personal, made the importance of the topic clear. The podcast seems to be catered to both the more casual person interested in psychology and a student looking for material to review what they have learned or to further engage them. The podcast does appear to be giving very up to date information and appears very reliable because of the educated people on it. I found the podcast very entertaining and interesting due to the interviews and the presence of Dr. Hughes and his charisma.

O.E.C39700000Geriatric Psychiatry ReviewThe podcast gives us some us some wonderful insight into the world of Geriatric psychiatry. Including some examples of what can happen in this kind of career via the speakers own personal experience. Is the podcast catered to a specific group of academicians, professionals, or students? Yes, I would think this was made for someone pursuing a career in this field. The information was legit and seemed up to date, atleast as far as my own research as shown me. InfoGeneratorGeriatric PsychiatryI found this podcast quite interesting and informative for students who want to study geriatric psychiatry. Since this episode was released two years ago, the information seems reliable, however as it is not up to date there could be more we are missing. The speakers were very clear with how they spoke, making the subject easier to understand. This is quite an interesting topic as it is one that is not spoken about and more people should know of it. I would recommend this podcast to any students who are interested in learning about this branch.

PsychTreeExcellent PodcastI had to listen to this podcast for a homework assignment, it turned out I ended up loving it. Even though I encountered terminology I did not know, it was not something a quick search could not clarify. The guests are knowledgeable and provide valuable insight into psychiatry. The content is suitable for students as for specialists. Definitely a 5/5.

XCyncynIntro to GeriatricsThis podcast was very informative and I loved how credible it was, because he got an actual specialist to share her experiences. Not only did she share her experiences but she also gave a clear explanation of what the field of geriatrics is. I also appreciated how she spoke about some medications and terms that they use in that field. I think he did a great job in asking the important questions. They kept the podcast light with the occasional humor and educational.

psy classReviewThis review was very informative and well thought out with credible and reliable sources. Dr. Hughes asked great questions and also more further into the detail with topics he thought were important. I feel like this was catered to professionals and students because he asked a lot of important questions yet the topic was well advance for professionals to better understand what they’re doing. Dr. Boors gave well thought out answers also if you want to gain more information or just starting to research the topic of geriatric psychiatry. I would recommend this episode of the podcast.

HEXATECH USERHelped me with my psychology assignment 👍🏾This podcast helped me understand what the field of Geriatrics and how Geriatric psychiatrists assist patients with mental illness. Although the podcast was hosted by 2 doctors experienced in there field, I felt this was a nice introduction into Geriatrics. I would recommend this to students deciding what route/age groups of psychology they want to focus on. I enjoyed that the podcast was consistently referring to medication and psychology terminology.

Patrick C Beeman, MDGreat showI listen to a lot of psych podcasts (totally underrated way to learn and review this material). By far, this is one of the best at providing high quality overviews of various topics that are accessible to a non-psychiatrist or student, but still provide more clinical perspective than you can get from a clerkship review book or a section from the DSM. Keep up the great work.
-
JrpolaczykFantastic psych podcast!Matt does an excellent job mixing important psychiatry topics with humor. The podcasts are educational and interesting, never dry or tedious. The target audience is medical students, but as a psychiatric nurse, I find it very helpful in reviewing terms and understanding the plan of care the psychiatrist has in mind for particular diagnoses.

MeregilGood for multitasking students of psychiatryInteresting, informative hour-long episodes on topics relevant to med students on their psych clerkships, early psychiatry residents, and others (NP/PA/nursing/psychology students, medical providers in other fields wanting to brush up on psych topics, etc.). A nice supplement to a psychiatry block or rotation. Very clinically relevant. Features active psychiatry faculty at the University of Michigan.
