Television singing sensation Calvin Hubbard has been caught with his hand in cookie jar. An illicit affair with a contest judge costs him not only the competition crown, but his musical credibility as well. Fleeing the media fallout, Calvin exiles himself to the backwoods town of Harvey, Virginia. With a little solitude and a lot of cheap beer, he plans to write the next great rock and roll album and resurrect his career. But Calvin doesn't know that a man has just been buried alive in the woods outside of town, and that this quiet murder is just the first in a string of macabre events. As the town goes silently mad around him, Calvin is unable to abandon the record of his dreams. Drunk on inspiration and blinded by an inexplicable lust, he careens headlong into the maelstrom, only to discover that he may be the town's only salvation. Something is alive in the trees—an ageless, nameless evil—and it's coming for everyone in Harvey. Now Calvin has to decide whether to run or to stay and fight… if it isn’t already too late."...sexy and full of scares. Harvey is dark, well-crafted, and downright menacing." -Philippa Ballantine, award-winning author of Chasing the BardPhil Rossi breaks new ground with Harvey--visit http://www.harveythenovel.com for the Harvey Sessions--the very album that Calvin Hubbard is composing and recording at the Little Rock Motel. Listen as the record's tracks take form and evolve from idea, to demo, to fully arranged song as impacted by the events in the novel.

    Thanks!
Finally a good novel. I've been looking a while. Well written. A few too many curse words but eager to hear what's next. 1/2 or 3/4 way through. Only found it as Harvey is my last name!

    Great
I have listened to a few audio books by Phil, and he is a master story teller and the production quality is top notch! Phil is now one of my favorite authors! You need to check his books out!

    WOW
Loved it. First book I've listened to that was truly scary. It did ramble a bit in the beginning, but glad I kept listening then I couldn't stop. Great sound quality. Many books I have to use ear buds to hear but this comes through loud and clear.

    Tedious and trite
Occasionally interesting turns of phrase but far more that sounds forced and, at times, laughable when humor was not the intention. May have carried better if material wasn't being read by the author, who sounds a little too much "in love with his darlings" and whose nasally voice grates on the listener's ears. Don't bother starting...it goes nowhere.

Lyrical beauty, dark tragedy, clash of cultures and worlds.
Wow. Phil has created a dark world here, rooted in the fantasy world of american idol and the homespun world of small town USA. He's populated this isolated country hamlet with white trash and hard working specimens, lazy and hardworking politicians and cops, transplants, recent and well established, from the big city, and given them all their own voices, their own desires, their own demons. Then he set loose a nightmare to swallow them up. This review won't cover the plot, won't spoil the fun in any way, only tell you that by subscribing you'll hear wonderfully written characters with clear voices and quirks, and look over their shoulder as they navigate small town treacheries, personal demons, and the monster that's come to swallow them all. Rossi's a musician, and his lyrical but craggy voice will lull you into his world, and root you in place with his characters, deep enough that you'll feel every loss, every tragedy along the ride. It's a slice of culture shock and the true shock of unstoppable horror that overtakes the world he makes you care for.

    Seriously creepy story
I thought this was a gripping, truly scary audiobook. Glad I didn't listen to it at night.

    Harvey
Story started off great, got very boring fast. This story could have been great but too much focus on the main character, who I think is too simple and full of himself. Also, a good writer doesn't have to use so much profanity to get the story across. I won't finish this story. I keep hoping the next chapter will get better, but it doesn't .

    Well written, Good story!
I'm a harsh critic and I think this story is great. It's entertaining and intriguing.

    so much potential...
Once again Mr. Rossi proves to be the king of "lost in translation". All his books have an interesting premise, but somehow turn out to be confusing, vague, and boring on paper. Take Crescent, replace the space station with a small town and you've got Harvey. Otherwise, they're remarkably similar books. Same vague, undeveloped "evil" force that takes over people, same non-existant character development, same crappy ending. I trudged through listening to this hoping the ending might redeem it somewhat, but was only let down again. The resolution doesn't resolve anything, and the whole book is wrapped up in about a page and a half, like the ending was a total afterthought.

couldn't wait for each episode to come out
This story kept me riveted waiting for each new episode to come out. Highly recommend this work. Excellent, suspenseful, and imaginative!

    Rossi rocks...
I loved this podiobook. Rossi does a great job of creating characters that the reader identifies with immediately, and then puts them through hell while you listen. Powerful stuff here. I want to go back and listen to it consecutively, now that it is complete. Episodic listening isn't my favorite way to tackle a novel, but I just couldn't wait for it to be complete before devouring each episode. As with Crescent, Rossi's reading gave an extra dimension to the story, and put you right there among the roots, dirt, and horror.

    Harvey: A Must Listen
Phil Rossi's "Harvey" is a fantastic critique of small town life and what happens to a tightly knit community when evil shows up on its doorstep. Calvin Hubbard, the main character, is funny, talented, and a bit lost as he finds himself the stranger under suspicion for the dark deeds that coincide with his arrival. The story chronicles the strained relationships between the townfolk as a bodycount piles up. The final two chapters will leave you reeling and horrified. "Harvey" is a strange mix of country twang, conspiracy, and the birth of a dark god. It should not be missed.
