No Simple Road Feels Like Family
I’m a new listener to the pod, but it feels like I’ve known Aaron, Mel & Apple for decades. The way they frame their conversations with the guests reminds me of bonfire family reunions. They’re not afraid to show us things that we didn’t know we needed to understand. Much love to the service you provide our community.

May the 4th be with you
I don’t have an Apple account but I borrowed a phone just to let everyone know how awesome this podcast is! Aaron, Apple, and Mel are the kindest people out there and their love and support for our scene is limitless. Always giving it 110%. And always will be as much as they can! Love, from Adam (Cali/Saint Louis)!!!

Like hanging out with old friends!
This podcast is like spending an hour or so kicking it with friends you haven’t gotten the chance to know in person yet. A welcoming vibe, from two beautiful people. Plus Apple, lol! I look forward to many more!

    Love NSR!!
No Simple Road is the best!! Beyond having a trove of an insightful and inspiring interviews, Aaron, Mel, and Apple are three who people who are just genuinely sweet to listen to. The NSR Weekly Rewind is always a wonderful mix of heartwarming, funny, and thought provoking conversation and I really cherish hearing each week’s episode. As I write this review, I’m listening to the most recent Rewind and loving their review of the Dark Star show! One of my favorite aspects of the show is being able to hear reactions to goings on in the jam scene (like DSO raging the Roseland) from three people whose opinions and experiences I really respect! I really cannot recommend this show enough, even for people who are not in the jam band community. The perspective that NSR provides really has universal resonance and I think there’s something for everyone in their catalogue. Much love!!

    5 star review long overdue
Listening to NSR has become a part of my weekly routine. Feel empty when I miss a beat. Grateful to feel apart of your fam!

    Testing…testing…
Hey all!! After hearing Mel’s plea on Friday’s episode, I decided to give this review thing a shot. I gave this podcast five stars when I discovered it back in Summer 2022, and now in October 2023 I can honestly say that No Simple Road deserves eight stars—or at least five golden stars. But, alas, another five star review will have to suffice. Aaron, Apple, and Mel are the real deal and some of my favorite people I’ve had the pleasure to meet and call my friends over the past year. If you’re listening and on the fence about the patron thing, don’t be. It’s only a buck a month for the cheapest option and there’s plenty of exclusive content on there that’ll keep you entertained. You can even listen to yours truly ramble for an hour if you’re a masochist. Happy birthday Mel! I hope you had an amazing day filled with love and light. Also—Aaron we’re putting you in a hazmat suit at the next show since you obviously need it to avoid getting sick again. Love you all, always, Conner

    As good as it gets!
This podcast has quickly risen to the top of episodes that I look forward to every week. The team is as real as it gets. Aaron, Mel, & Apple have a way of making you feel like you’re in the room with them catching up with old friends. Honest discussion and great interviews that give you a real sense of who the artist IS, rather than only what they do for a living. The recent move to two episodes a week was spot on! I love catching up with the NSR fam as much as the interviews. A refreshing & inspiring podcast that is full of laughs, life, & LOVE!

    Simply Great!
In true Grateful Dead spirit these hosts go with the flow during their interviews and weekly rewinds. Nothing seems planned which lends an air of authenticity to all of the interesting conversations. The episodes are always interesting, funny and relatable. All of the guests seem to appreciate the improvisational, holistic approach to the interviews as well. The interviews are more like casual conversations in a great way. I’m all in.

    Best thing since Sliced DEAD
I work from Home and listen to Stern when he’s live. When he’s not I started binging this podcast. Big Phish and Dead head and heard Dawn from Phemale Centrics give you guys a shout out while promoting Osirus podcasts. I found NSR and have been binging straight when I can up to episode 20. I actually can’t wait to go to work in the morning so I can get back on the longe strange trip that is No Sinple Road, the honesty and Vulnerability is refreshing and the topics are what I love on every Level, thanks guys Keep it Up. Update. These friends from this show I now call my Phamily and will support them to the end, we have seen countless shows together and the Mycelium network continues to grow. Never Forget. Deadhead’s Seinfeld?
I never liked the name but since I’ve been listening to the Dead since 1969 I guess I am a Deadhead. The 3 hosts are extremely likable people. It’s kind of like Seinfeld in that it’s a show - well not about “nothing” but much of the show is about discussing very normal issues that I wouldn’t think would be a basis for a podcast but these 3 are naturally engaging and through their personalities alone have created a genuine community around themselves. As a professional musician for 50 years I don’t often enjoy hearing non-pros interviewing pros but their style grows out of a true audience-performer connection - a valuable and precious thing. One caveat - the time spent on - (are they still called?) “commercials” is staggering. When listening to a new episode I generally start about 15 minutes in. But hey if they can quit their day jobs (I’m sure that will happen) more power to them. Very sweet people.

    So Happy I Found This
Hello from IL! Been listening for a little over a month now & Im glad I found this crew. Interesting episodes and new artist spotlight. I mean, what a great resource for finding new music. I’ve been stuck in 60-90s and trying to find new, relevant jams and have had some luck on my own but glad I have Aaron, Mel and Apple. Part of what they do is similar to the record store manager who would say, “Hey you gotta listen to this.” Episodes flow well and bc my interests lie in the same space as theirs, it’s an enjoyable listen & great fit for what I want to be doing with my time.

    Great pod

    This crew rocks ❤️
I got into the jams about a year ago and my life has been changed. Went to over 30 shows in 2022, and it has brought me experiences and people I never could have imagined. With all the love and joy from the jams, I have been struggling with finding balance in my day to day life. I am 20 years old, moved to Colorado (from New Hampshire) last year for school, dropped out of school and am just trying to find my way. I struggle greatly with my mental health, and found this podcast around the New Year. Every episode I turn on makes me want to cry, it is as though the universe knew exactly what I needed to hear, and channeled that message through some of my favorite musicians and your podcast. This road is so far from simple, and your discussions have helped me stay grounded and keep working on myself the past weeks. I look forward to being a seasoned listener and meeting y’all one day ❤️‍🔥 -Ben from Gunnison, Colorado

    Really bad
Four to five minutes of “visit our sponsors”. Ten minutes of “buy our merch”, “visit our patreon”, “what a great show we have”, “leave us a five star”. Tarot readings for sale? Really? The NPR interviewing style is annoying. The entire thing is disingenuous. At least try to convince us you’re not shills. If this is a joke, I missed the punchline. If you have a brain, you will too. Save your time and scroll on.

    NSR Fam
Not only are these folks as kind, compassionate, and fun as they are on the mic, as they are off… they are simply here to love through conversation and community. Thank you NSR family for doing what you do every week. Thank you for the commitment you choose to make to show up and show out. Thank you for loving us through the digital world of the interweb. And most importantly thank you for being YOU. LOVE YOU!

    Synchronicity
Y’all’s podcast is a breath of fresh air the interviews don’t feel forced they feel organic. They feel like a conversation with like minded people around the fire at a campground after a show or on the back porch with friends after a wonderful night together. Personally, I think this is the best way to conduct an interview as it puts the subject of the interview at ease and allows him/her to feel relaxed and not assaulted by questions and on edge. I applaud y’all for this approach, keep it up my friends. I had the opportunity to meet and get to know y’all at the dicks run this year and I could not have asked for a better group of people to spend the weekend with. We were without our normal crew of people and y’all opened your heart and phamily to us. Sometimes that sort of an interaction, particularly at a show, can have a bit of a superficial quality to it. It’s there in the moment, but it quickly fades, but I cannot express how much these individuals Mel and Aaron (and the rest of y’all’s crew) embody the antithesis of this waning quality. They love wholeheartedly and are fully genuine in their actions towards others. The two of y’all had no reason to be there so solidly for the two of us. We didn’t know you, you didn’t know us. But, when we struggled, you helped us and when we celebrated y’all reveled in it with us. These are wonderful people and this is a wonderful podcast do yourself a favor and listen in one and all. Cannot express the highest level of respect i have for them and their podcast.

    Find your musical vibe tribe!
Bringing our musical family together, one podcast at a time. With an infectious joy & earnest quest, to find what really makes people tick, Mel, Apple & Aaron, have the most heartfelt, authentic conversations with musicians & artists & a myriad of other folks that make up the cosmic tapestry of our scene. I’ve never finished one of their podcasts, without a smile on my face & a warmth in my heart. Thank you for fostering the No Simple Road family. Much Love 💗

It’s High Time for a Review
Folks. You’ve got one of the hardest working families bringing you awesome content from in and around our scene, the jam band scene, the bluegrass scene, country, jazz and just about everything that has the words “music” and “scene” in it. See…this is a highway, and I’ve been on it since just about the beginning. I have listened to no other podcast in my entire life, more than this one, that is not hyperbole. I love these guys, Aaron, Mel, Apple (Darwin), and a shoutout to Ryder, one of the early hosts. They’ve made me laugh, cry, think about my life in ways I could not have, that made me give, they’ve inspired me, they’ve given back and set a perpetual wheel in motion rolling those laughing bones. They’re built to last this little podcast. The Ripple is growing. Little did they know that when they left Las Vegas and moved to Oregon, they’d be bringing us along eventually. High production value, High family values, high down-to-earth interviews. So here’s my high-five. Give it a listen!

Your my warm blanket, my good bowl of my favorite bud, the soup that warms the Chilled bones of my Soul, and most importantly your are that hug from the Universe of my Mom that I am still longing for. I’ve listened to every single episode and still can’t get enough. The podcast with the biggest love vibes, never fails to warm my heart and feed my soul. The NSR crew has a special gift of bringing out the most authentic and genuine conversations with it’s guests. While I love the interviews it’s the weekly recaps with Apple, Mel, and Aaron that I look forward to the most, it always seems to be the therapy session I didn’t know I needed for the week. Your vulnerability, love and wisdom has done more for me than you’ll ever know!! Love ya NSR fam, give Darwin a kiss for me.

    Family
I was a guest, so I’m biased, but I’ve also listened to many episodes. Simply put, these folks are family. They’re your friends who have the same struggles and joys we all do, but music keeps us fueled. Outstanding podcast supporting the jam community.

    NSR Brings the Love
These homies run a killer show full of all kinds of topics! The biggest continuing thread I see through all the episodes though is love. They truly care about the community/family they have created, and are continually finding new ways to spread their message throughout the cosmos!

    Safe Space !!!
Anyone who enjoys music in general, not only but especially phish/grateful dead, you need to give a listen. Pure joy radiates from this podcast. Absolute love and light pours out of my ear holes when I listen. I’m only 20, been going to phish at the gorge for 10 years and I was lucky enough to meet these guys in August. Been listening to em at work everyday. Love hearing from amazing artists, and people who are passionate about making them known and loved.

Came over from Spotify just to write this. This show has been such a blessing this past year. Getting to hear stories from dead tours that I wasn’t even alive for, turning on to new bands that are blowing me away(Grant Livingston), and just hearing some people who truly want to spread love is what makes this show so great. Thank you NSR! Please please please keep this show goin for all of us!

Never in my life have I heard such an intimate, down home podcast that speaks to the listener on such a personal level. Incredibly in depth conversations with musicians, artists, and interesting individuals that include nuggets of wisdom and joy that no one should go without. The love, authenticity, and passion of these folks is something incredibly special, and for your sake, I suggest you hop on in. They care about YOU, yes YOU, deeply and sincerely. Thank You!
I was introduced NSR podcast back in December of 2020 via Instagram. I have been hooked ever since. Their honest approach, openness and willingness to put it all out there is so refreshing. The fluidity of the interviews and guest that appear on the show speak for themselves. Thank you to all three of you and those behind the scenes that make this happen. Keep it coming. To those that enjoy what they provide for all of us, please support them. Happy Birthday Apple! Big Ol’Joel

Just like the good ole Grateful Dead these guys aren’t afraid to take chances and go out on a limb to make magic! I’ve learned of so much great new music from them too! I’m proud to be a patreon supporter and think if you listen to this regularly that you should help Aaron quit his day job!

Just Like Kicking It With Family
Being a Queer Deadhead down in ATX, I’ve really been missing my chosen family spread across the country during this past year. Can’t have same chats here that I do with them. Aaron, Mel, and Apple have filled the air for me. It feels like I’m with close friends, just chilling and vibing. The guests are great and they have managed to turn me on to new stuff I may have missed. Big hugs to the crew. Thanks for giving me so many roads to ease my soul!
