S&LRoxAnything “Secrets of Hollywood”Special favorites? The Val Lewton “Shadows” series which I’m now listening to for the second time. “Baby” about Jean Harlow. The Hitchcock series. The Audrey Hepburn series—a shattering WWII history lesson. “Hunting Witches…” a sobering American history lesson. “A Universe of Horrors” Mesmerizing all. And there are others I haven’t mentioned. I can't recommend Adam’s work highly enough.

englitguyThe reel dealHey now. If you are looking for deep dives into cinema history, including details about actors, producers, directors, and the other many factions that go into creating movies of the golden age, this is the channel for you. You’ll also be rewarded with the relevant social and cultural histories that impacted not only individuals in the movie business, but also the issues that are presented in the movies, including the Hayes code, the laws of coverture, sexism, racism, and the impact of economics and war, all of which are covered in the excellent scholarship presented here.

IES SchoolEscape to the pastStarted to listen to the podcast about 1 month ago and was instantly hooked. If you are a fan of classic movies, music and radio - this is a must! Just signed on with Patreon, and don’t regret it. Such a great escape to yesteryear.
-
tlyhsObsessed with this show!I love everything about it! From the radio shows to recommendations. I’m so impressed with this production.
-
ZaraWrightBest part are the gigglesIf you are feeling low, listen to the Brighton Strangler episode. Seems counter intuitive based on the title, but Adam dissolving into laughter when describing the ludicrous plot and earnest dialogue, is probably my favorite bit of podcast joy there out there today.
-
HeleneOTroySo good! This podcast combines everything I love in old time radio, Hollywood, and general 20th century pop culture. And the research is spot on. Plus, Adam’s voice is just so darn soothing! Recommend 100%!
-
doreenweeseThe bestI’ve been listening to The Secret History Of Hollywood for a couple years now and just discovered this series. I drive an hour to work each morning and this morning I was laughing out loud! He is hilarious and it’s great catching up on all the old movies
-
Gman BradBest podcast ever for fans of classic filmsAdam Roche puts together a first-class podcast on the Golden Age of Hollywood. Funny and heartfelt - each episode highlights films you may have not heard of, and also includes vintage radio versions of classic fims, usually performed by the original film stars. Check out his other podcast for a deeper dive: Secret History of Hollywood.

greypatchesThis is AmazingI love this show. It's got all the old radio shows and provides old movie reviews that I've looked for and greatly enjoyed. As a long-time Sherlock Holmes and Universal monster movie fan, I find that this podcast is so fantastic. It's also professionally produced and edited so I'm not getting earhurt from listening (as some other podcasts can cause). Please don't ever go away!!
-
gatorgolfmikeA must!Love the show. A must subscription for classic film fans.
-
Cubed RatI love this showAlthough Adam is not the best singer.
-
Tkims123Great fun!Adam has such a fantastic voice. He does a fantastic job. The movie recommendations are spot on and I love the radio shows as well. Well done!!
-
MSAX123Engaging and addictiveAdam Roche has created a fantastic podcast here. The reviews are always spot on with a fresh, highly entertaining perspective on the films in question and he always picks the most appropriate radio play to go with it. Really makes you appreciate these gems anew. And the episodes that later become part of his offshoot “secret history of Hollywood” podcast are extremely well researched, well written, of course well narrated, and worth the investment of time. It’s very clear Adam has a reverence for his subject but looks at it all with a modern and irreverent eye. I dare you to not fall about laughing at episode 2’s “Canterbury!” Yet still find the play gripping. These are straight up fun. Just terrific Adam. Keep it up!

msgausPodcast with a twinkle in its eyeI adore this podcast and my new funny friends Adam & Sookie. I’m a tireless consumer of classic movies and old time radio. Love that Adam reviews movies I haven’t seen, but even when I have, Adam often makes me want to watch it again with new eyes. In a voice that makes me feel everything is right with the world, Adam offers up reviews that are informed, original and insightful. His opinions are edgy, his banter and take on vintage ads hilarious and impeccably timed. But he’s not cynical. In fact, he’s full of heart, in love and all in with old Hollywood. I won’t say more in the way of describing the content and format of Attaboy Clarence; others have done that before me. Just do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Dr. Crocoduck PretoriusRemarkably goodAdam is a treat to listen to, always fun, entertaining and full of interesting facts about old time radio, classic film and stars of the silver screen.
-
Missmegan1521A Starship CanterburyTop notch - nice mix of classic film reviews and their accompanying radio plays.
-
WLRO1947This is a very interesting situation! In a world flooded by podcasts there are very few that can inspire, entertain and inform. Attaboy does all three things and more. I can only hope this podcast will continue far beyond my years. "Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? " The world without this podcast would leave an awful hole.
-
Gromit EsqTruly entertainingI am addicted to podcasts, and when I stumbled across Attaboy Clarence (well, you can't ignore a podcast with THAT title) I had to give it a try. Love it!!! Entertaining, informative, extremely well researched, a voice that is probably the envy of every podcaster, and just the right level of goofiness and fun that will make you smile along with Mr. Roche. Don't miss out on what everyone is listening to!
-
moomyrcksA must podcast for any cinephile!!Wonderfully presented and researched. Love every minute of this.
-
chrischildsBest Podcast on iTunes!I've been listening to Adam's podcast for over a year, and it's absolutely the best podcast on iTunes. His ability to bring the characters and movies to life using his wit and resources is by far better than any other movie history podcast. His production and information make this podcast sound so professional. Love both of his podcasts, and he has the perfect voice for a podcast
-
rita/orsenSo much fun!!!A very funny and enjoyable podcast...all because of Adam Roches delievery...if you have not listened to episode 2 please do, it is hilarouis...I guaranee you will laugh out loud...
-
Shickey99LOVE it and not even a cinefileCame to Bullets and Blood through some convoluted path from Karina Longworth's "You Must Remember This", thence to Attaboy Clarence. If you haven't listened to B&B, head straight over NOW. As for Attaboy Clarence, Mr. Roche's content is thoroughly researched and his writing makes the subject matter come to life. The production value is top notch and Mr. Roche's witty commentary, the vintage commercials, the radio plays and the Question Pot jingle (!!!) make this one irresistible podcast.
-
Barking_DogGood StuffThese podcasts are amazing. Very well researched and thought out. If you care about film these are well worth your time. Production values are top notch and the announcer is well spoken and easy to understand. Each one contains a wealth of information as well as ideas to consider. One of the joys of listening is figuring out how the music that is used relates to the material being presented ~ I go a "little mad sometimes" trying to figure out where the music being used came from. This is one hell of a class act!
-
LeevthreeReviewFunny and fresh podcast. Always waiting and wanting for more. Enjoy!

-
Loridans1UncannyThere are a dozen reasons why this podcast shouldn't work, yet it never seems to hit a wrong note. A very witty & talented host who does it 100% right. Pretty darn good (and interesting) taste in movies as well.
-
Jl3zThe best!!If you love classic movies and old time radio, this is the best podcast. The host, Adam, is incredible. He's interesting, funny and the content is extremely informative. I have listened to all episodes twice over. So good!!!

malcojojoHeavenI can’t say enough positive things about this podcast and Adam’s other equally as amazing SECRET HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD podcast. Super high production levels, podcasts PACKED with content, and all delivered with a wit and charm Cary Grant himself might have been jealous of! hehehe Fantastic!
-
CynHutchMy favorite podcastI have to confess that I am a super fan of this podcast and his partner podcast The Secret History of Hollywood. But my addiction is to this one. It's hard to describe. It usually consists of two-three reviews of old movies and a radio show, plus Adam's unique sense of humor, clips of old commercials and songs with Adam's very funny comments. I have downloaded them all and relisten when I need a chuckle. I have also taken alot of his reccomendations and checked out a lot of old movies. I am also a Patroen of his for full disclosure. Anything I can do to keep Adam producing his podcasts is to my and anyone else who enjoys old movies and radio shows and funny charming hosts would love this podcast
-
HoosiernormWonderful collection of classic radio showsI fell in love with this podcast from the moment I heard Adam's review of the Brighton Strangler. The absolute pleasure that he took in explaining such a horrible plot construction and impossible characters was probably the best thing I have heard this year. It is worth listening to just to raise your spirits for an hour.
-
Pekka K.Consistantly EntertainingBest podcast I have ever listened to about classic movies and old time radio. Adam has a passion and level of scholarship on both his podcasts that is impressive, while still keeping his work entertaining. Highly recommended.
-
cragarrowsMy Favorite PodcastThere is not a better voice in the podcast universe, conveying enthusiasm, wit, and joy in a love of old movies. I don't share Adam's love of Old Time Radio so much, but the 20 minutes or so that proceeds the OTR program is not to be missed, and the related Secret History of Hollywood podcasts are great storytelling achievements, like beyond audiobooks -- stories enhanced with background music and audio clips.

Randm333WonderfulOne of my favorite podcast on two of my favorite forms of entertainment: Classic films and Old Time Radio shows. The production values are great, the host clearly enjoys the films and radio series and offers witty and informative discussions of classic movies and radio dramas. His Secret History of Hollywood is also a must listen to podcast!
-
ShannonHancock116Brilliant!Adam has a balanced take that as a fellow film obsessive, I truly appreciate. He is able to convey his irreverent understanding of the complete insanity of many old films and radio content, but never once do you doubt his total love for the good and bad. He clearly worships the mediums and is able to take the listners past the grandstanding classics to the smaller films, the creepier moments, the funniest bits, and overlooked gifted actors that too often slip underneath the collective radar. I find his reviews honest, enthusiastic, and always on point. The radio selections are simply fantastic, and the delivery and commentary on various advertisements never fails to leave me laughing away at my desk like a nincompoop. Adam has also succeeded in an area I find to be a mark of a truly dedicated fan and podcaster - community. He has cultivated a feeling of comraderie within the podcast, an atmosphere that assures comfort and the presence of like-minded, friendly fans who want nothing more than to enjoy Sally Gray, Suspense, and a few well-timed "Canterbury"s.

FgdmorrExcellent history and humourI've come late to the party having just discovered Attaboy Clarence in the past week. Now I'm binge listening to catch up. These are beautifully researched and presented podcasts with a great variety of information and entertainment. And The Secret History of Hollywood presentations are massively brilliant! Adam Roche deserves every bit of commendation coming his way for these podcasts. You can't go wrong with these!
-
GQueueFantastic!Behind-the-scenes history behind old Hollywood films, radio serials and the talent that brought them to life is told in such an entertaining, humorous and always captivating way—this podcast is a must-listen show. The Hitchcock episodes alone, although quite lengthy, are classics. Brilliant.

JeffreyZSplendidAt my age 69, one might think that classic radio and tv were a part of my upbringing. Not so, in the late 40's and early 50's television was the rage and all else was left behind. In the 1970's I tuned into E. G. Marshall's CBS Radio Mystery Theater program featuring a wide range of classic radio mystery offerings. What a revelation. The over-used term "theater of the mind" was no longer just a buzz word. From there I purchased cassette tapes and later CDs capturing the brilliance of Richard Diamond, Nero Wolfe and Phil Marlowe amongst others. Began to search cable tv for those great classics of the 30's, 40's, 50's and even into the zany 60's. What discovery of media pleasure. Next came podcasts and I discovered "Attaboy Clarence". A marvelous mixture of humor, insight and emotion. Bringing the listener the best experience in exploring film and classic radio. The podcast host once said he may be watching more "B" movies than may be healthy. Nonsense, never enough for fun and exposure to the best and worst of the artistic craft. If you want to experience first rate radio/tv enlightenment and some of the best off-beat humor, subscribe today. Also subscribe to the companion podcast, "the Secret History of Hollywood". Thanks.

KatieJorKatieJorGreat podcast- keep the old Hollywood film podcasts alive- subscribe and review so they can keep doing what they do so well! This show is awesome!

BeaujolaiseEach episode is a present for old time radio enthusiastsWhenever a new show is posted, I feel like its my birthday!
-
Ryan SmallwoodEssential for Classic Movie/Radio FansStarted listening as purely a classic movie fan, ignorant to the amazing world of classic radio dramas. This is not only my favorite classic movie podcast now, but has been a great introduction to the radio side of my favorite films. The documentary episodes are invaluable. Thanks for the great work! This is real quality here.
-
awolverton77Not to Be Missed! The sound quality of these Old Time Radio shows alone makes this podcast rise to the top of the OTR shows, but Adam is such an engaging host you simply can’t stop listening. Adam’s movie knowledge and delivery are astounding. Can’t recommend this podcast highly enough.
-
The Oscar GrouchThe best in old time entertainmentIf you have any fondness for old radio programs like Suspense, and the lesser known films of the classic greats, Adam's podcast is the best option for you. Not only does he sound like Tom Hiddleston, but his passion for the programming of yesteryear blends perfectly with his talent for showmanship.
